Assistant Dean of Students

Job Description:

The Assistant Dean serves as an integral member of the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards, supporting the Associate Dean/Director of Student Conduct & Community Standards and contributing to the overall direction and priorities of the office.   The Assistant Dean provides services and works closely with Brown University undergraduate, graduate and medical students.  The position serves as a Case Administrator for student conduct cases and as a Dean's hearing officer.   The Assistant Dean works with students and others to investigate violations of the Brown University Student Conduct Code.  

Job Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (student affairs, education, sociology, public policy, psychology) or law degree, and five years related experience in student conduct, student affairs, residential life or law or an equivalent combination of experience and education required
  • Knowledge and experience working with college students in an academically rigorous environment
  • Demonstrated experience and success working in a multicultural environment with a clear understanding of the issues of diversity and inclusion in both student and workplace settings required
  • Excellent written and oral skills required
  • Ability to utilize technology in the delivery of services and case management
  • Flexibility to evolve with a changing campus life program preferred
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff and faculty.
  • An understanding of assessment techniques used within a student conduct program preferred
  • Experience responding to student crises preferred
