The Center for Intercultural and Civic Engagement at University of Puget Sound invites applications for a Program Coordinator to join the team!

This 0.4 FTE, temporary, 10.5-month, paraprofessional position (19 hours per week, July 16-May 31) works with the senior staff of the Center for Intercultural and Civic Engagement (CICE) in assisting with identity-based student organization support; staffing and supporting programs; and, helping to lead small groups, courses, and workshops related to intercultural and interfaith content at the university. They would also be available on a limited basis for some evenings and weekends to assist with CICE's mission of supporting student involvement in off-campus intercultural and social justice work in Tacoma and the surrounding areas.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Course Development and Co-Facilitation

    Co-facilitate CICE fall semester workshop team with Asst. Dir. for Civic Engagement, Director of Intercultural Engagement, and Workshop Team student staff coordinator to help students learn about and develop peer-to-peer educational workshops engaging social justice topics.Prepare and facilitate the lecture and course discussion for Civic Engagement Pathway course once every 3 weeks.Develop, implement, and complete an annual project (to be chosen in consultation with the permanent staff) meant to further the integration of CICE-related programs and resources into the on-campus residential experience.Provide additional evening and weekend support and programming with both specific CICE-related communities and in supporting CICE student-led workshops for general residential or other communities.Other duties as needed.
Professional Staff Meetings

    Attend biweekly 1-1 and joint meetings with the Director for Intercultural Engagement and Assistant Director for Civic Engagement & Spiritual Life; weekly 1-1 meetings with Office of Intercultural Engagement team; bimonthly meetings with CICE professional staff; monthly Division of Student Affairs (DSA) meetings.
Hourly/Weekly Schedule

This is a 19 hrs/week position. The anticipated breakdown of hours are as follows:

    5 hours of co-facilitation for weekly fall semester CICE workshop team (weekly, 1.5 hrs) meetings and Civic Engagement Pathway Course (twice a week, 1.5 hrs); 10 hours of course preparation; 4 hours of meetingsSchedule of in-office presence is Tuesday-Thursday 9:00am-2:00pm (15 hrs) with 4 floating hours for programs, events, and/or remote work
Supervisory Responsibilities

    Serve as a mentor to select student leaders as coordinated through CICE leadership.Co-supervise student staff (e.g. Civic Engagement Pathway Course TA and CICE Workshop Team Coordinator) working on the intersections of intercultural work and civic engagement.Work with other staff to provide need-based advocacy related to students' social identities.
Budget Responsibilities

The Program Coordinator will not have direct management of budgetary resources. Support will be provided through the various CICE operating budgets.

Qualifications:

    Bachelor's Degree required. Experience as a student leader in student affairs preferred.Demonstrate foundational knowledge and capacity to engage intercultural issues and social justice, including awareness of their own identities and how they interface with the populations they work with.Experience working with social justice, diversity and inclusion, interfaith programs, and/or civic engagement efforts and community organizations.Experience creating and facilitating programs and educational conversations required.Experience leading students required.High level of comfort and openness to work with students, campus, and community partners of a fully inclusive range of identities, especially including race, ethnicity, disability, nationality, documentation status, religious/spiritual identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and gender identity/expression.A strong commitment to collaboration; ability to work on a team and independently.Interest in personal and professional growth through student affairs within a social justice framework.Skill in creating publicity and event communication highly desirable.A positive attitude and willingness to perform assigned duties with excellence and enthusiasm.Dependable, punctual, and committed to timely communication and follow-through related to job duties.Attention to detail.Self-motivated work ethic & a desire to proactively engage students, faculty, staff, and community partners.Creative, innovative, and organized.Excellent verbal and written communication skills (via telephone, email, and/or in-person). Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively in a timely and considerate manner, and be comfortable building professional relationships. May require the use/operation of personal, rented, or university vehicle to conduct university business.

Compensation and Benefits: Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.

This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
