Position Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Lab Assistant III will help manage and maintain stem cell cultures and assist with experiments under the guidance of the PI involving genome modification techniques and high data content technologies including next-generation sequencing. In this process, the incumbent will assist with basic molecular biology procedures and supervise undergraduate workers involved in these tasks. Research duties include maintaining cell cultures for several weeks; generating transgenic cell lines; genotyping cells: DNA sequencing and Southern blots; quantitative PCR, flow cytometry and preparing DNA libraries for sequencing. Other lab duties include coordinating purchase orders for lab supplies/reagents, maintaining databases (chemicals, biologicals, cell lines), performing computer software updates and serving as laboratory safety officer.
