Job Summary/Basic Function

One tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level in a joint appointment between the Department of Mathematics, and Computer Science in the Offutt School of Business. (Candidates with appropriate experience may be considered at the associate level.) The successful candidate will enter a vibrant, student-centered interdisciplinary program and have the opportunity to teach a variety of undergraduate courses (three per term) at all levels, including specialty, elementary, and service courses, in mathematics and computer science. The successful candidate will be involved with curriculum development and design in support of our programs (majors in mathematics, computer science-data analytics, computer science-computing, mathematical finance, and mathematics education; minors in mathematics and data analytics). Participation with undergraduates in research is also expected.

Minimum Qualifications

A Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, data science, statistics, or related field is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with ability to teach both mathematics and computer science, and to those whose scholarly interests might engage undergraduates in mathematics, computational mathematics, statistics, data analytics, and/or computer science projects and research.

Evidence of teaching excellence is essential, as is a passion for and understanding of a liberal arts undergraduate program.

The successful candidate must demonstrate sympathy with the mission of a liberal arts college of the Lutheran (ELCA) church.

Successful candidates will aspire to be part of a diverse community that affirms an abundance of identities, experiences, and perspectives in order to imagine, examine, and implement possibilities for individual and communal thriving both inside and outside of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Going Places

Within six months of graduation, 96 percent of recently surveyed new Concordia graduates reported being employed or attending graduate school. Concordia students have achieved an 88 percent acceptance rate into medical school (in 10 years surveyed). Ninety-three percent of Concordia graduates applying for law school are accepted.
