Job Summary Requisition Number: 30072 Job Title: LABORATORY ASSISTANT III Working Title: Laboratory Assistant III Salary: $19.86 - $23.63 hourly Job Type: Career Department Name: 0865-MOLECULAR, CELL & DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY Department Website URL: Job Summary Statement: Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Lab Assistant III will help manage and maintain stem cell cultures and assist with experiments under the guidance of the PI involving genome modification techniques and high data content technologies including next-generation sequencing. In this process, the incumbent will assist with basic molecular biology procedures and supervise undergraduate workers involved in these tasks. Research duties include maintaining cell cultures for several weeks; generating transgenic cell lines; genotyping cells: DNA sequencing and Southern blots; quantitative PCR, flow cytometry and preparing DNA libraries for sequencing. Other lab duties include coordinating purchase orders for lab supplies/reagents, maintaining databases (chemicals, biologicals, cell lines), performing computer software updates and serving as laboratory safety officer. Excellent organizational skills and ability to keep accurate records of cell lines, biological samples, and laboratory supplies. Required 2. Excellent interpersonal skills. Required 3. Skill in communicating problems and information in a timely and critical manner. Required 4. Ability to work independently, supervise others, and follow through with tasks. Required 5. Ability to think critically. Required 6. Undergraduate degree in a field of science and knowledge of basic molecular biology techniques or an equivalent combination of education or experience. Required 7.
