Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The University of South Carolina Lancaster, a Palmetto College campus of the University of South Carolina located approximately thirty-five (35) miles south of Charlotte, NC seeks candidates for a non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Instructor of Biology and Chemistry/Laboratory Manager position.

An Instructor will normally teach eight courses per year or its equivalent, including evening and distributed learning courses as needed, as well as have a commitment to university/community service.

Laboratory management duties include preparation of media, solutions and equipment for all biology labs, culturing for microbiology labs, supervising student lab assistants, maintaining a clean and safe laboratory workspace, and biohazardous waste management.

Required Education and Experience

Applicants who hold a Master of Science or other appropriate degree in biology and/or chemistry or related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in chemistry and/or biology, including credentials necessary for departmental approval to teach introductory and upper division courses in BIOL or CHEM will be considered.

Experience teaching at the university level, and experience with aseptic technique, microbiological culturing, microbiological media preparation, biosafety, biohazardous waste, and general lab safety, is also highly desired. This experience could have been gained during the course of pursuing a graduate degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who can be approved to teach needed courses in both BIOL and CHEM disciplines.
