Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

This position will help facilitate 4-H Educational Youth Programs in Macon County and carry on the day to day activities of the 4-H program in a county that has a growing population. The county is adjacent to Houston County and its Military base.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Work with the 4-H Youth program.

Excellent communication skills – oral and written. Ability to work with diverse population. Knowledge of Cooperative Extension 4-H program activities.

Have a Valid Driver’s License and have transportation to travel within the county and to 4-H club events within the state.

Physical Demands

Requires frequent travel. Some light lifting may be involved.

Assist 4-H’ers in preparation for the 4-H competitive events including project achievement, judging teams, etc.

Transport or arrange for transportation of 4-H’ers to various district and state events and if assigned, provide leadership for youth while attending these events.
**Attendance at 4-H events may be a requirement for this position. It will be as assigned by the 4-H Agent Work Group Coordinator, County Coordinator or District Personnel.

Conduct in school club meetings and deliver the prepared curriculum that meets state (Georgia Professional Standards) guidelines.

Incorporate the results of program evaluations and feedback in planning future programs and techniques used in implementing programs under the direction of a 4-H Work Group Coordinator and District Program Development Director 4-H.

Identify, recruit, train and help supervise 4-H volunteers in planning, teaching and evaluating Cooperative Extension 4-H programs. Assist interested volunteers in the successful completion of the 4-H Chaperone Training. Multiple programs may receive leadership from Volunteers such as the Archery Team, Horse Club, BB Team, and Livestock Show Teams. Extension Program Assistants must manage those programs through the management of the Volunteer with assistance from the Area 4-H Agent and County Coordinator.

Make reports to appropriate clientele, staff members, Board of Education, Board of Commissioners and public officials through mass media (social media, County websites, etc.) personal contacts an/or group meetings. Submit accurate and complete reports in a timely manner in GA Counts, 4-H enrollment and the District Office. These responsibilities are under the direction of the Area 4-H Work Group Coordinator and County Coordinator.

Regularly participate in staff conferences.

Process or develop adequate computer skills to enhance communication to the public and Extension.

Assist staff with day to day operations of Cooperative Extension county office by answering phone, processing mail, distributing publications, greeting visitors, filing documents, etc. (when needed)

Maintain office inventory of office supplies and materials as needed to support the 4-H program.

Other duties as assigned by 4-H Work Group Coordinator, 4-H PDC and County Coordinator.
