The part-time Horticulture Program Assistant will perform duties necessary to assist the County Extension Agriculture and Natural Resources Agent in the day to day of program delivery. Duties will include answering phone calls, greeting and assisting guests, sample identification and microscope work, leading adult education meetings during the day, night, and on weekends, teaching established curriculum to youth and adults, presenting at career fairs and other outreach functions, and assisting with the Master Gardener Extension volunteer program.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position

High school diploma or GED Appropriate experience in a work or volunteer environment. Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and travel are required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Computer knowledge, communication (written and verbal) skills, and some experience with various office machines.

Physical Demands

Physical activity is required to conduct programs (pack and move boxes, handle equipment, load and unload vehicles, outdoor garden work, setting up rooms for program delivery, etc.) Travel to Extension events, as well as, provide transportation to these events for youth or adult participants utilizing county vehicles such as a 10 passenger van or minibus. Sit at a desk or stand in a classroom setting for extended periods of time.
