The department has nearly 700 undergraduate majors and 45 graduate majors. The program offers bundled electives in law enforcement, corrections, juvenile justice and homeland security at the undergraduate level. The undergraduate program is the only program in North Carolina to be certified by both the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences and the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. The department is home to two Institutes: the Institute for Homeland Security and Workforce Development and the Juvenile Justice Institute.Primary Purpose of Position
The Department of Criminal Justice is seeking applications to fill one nine-month tenure-track position (617002) at the Assistant Professor level starting the Fall 2019 academic year.Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses through face-to-face and online instruction, student advisement for undergraduate and/or graduate students, thesis/project supervision, and scholarly pursuits to include research, publication, and grant writing. Service within the department, university, community and discipline are required. The ability to work independently as well as collegially with others to ensure student learning and success in a diverse environment is expected. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
Preferences for this position:
All areas of specialization will be considered. Individuals with teaching specialization in research methods and in statistics, and in our bundled elective areas, are encouraged to apply.
A doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Juvenile Justice or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution is required. Applicants must have at least 18 graduate-level hours in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Juvenile Justice, and a Juris Doctorate does not qualify for the position. ABD candidates will be considered. Degree must be conferred by May 2019.Licenses or Certification required by Statute or Regulation
