The Pediatric Advocacy Program at Stanford University provides a coherent structure for local advocacy efforts and community partnerships at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH) and the School of Medicine (SOM). The advocacy program is designed to improve the coordination of child-focused advocacy activities and local programs underway at Stanford. The program strives to provide a critical base for developing new initiatives of local and national importance, defining how a major pediatric center can support efforts to strengthen local, regional, and national child health programs and policies through innovative training and community-based partnerships.

The Program & Research Coordinator (SSRP1) will lead the implementation of early education programming across four mid-Peninsula clinics. They will assist the advocacy team on several community-engaged service and research projects (i.e., conducting needs assessments, program implementation, evaluation, and dissemination). They will support pediatric residents and medical students engaged in the examination of health disparities among underserved populations (e.g. food insecurity, homelessness, built environment, domestic violence, asthma, etc.)

Interactions with health care providers and pediatric residents are a primary responsibility of this role. A flexible work schedule, ability to multi-task, outstanding oral and written communication and organizational skills, and attention to detail are required in a successful candidate. The coordinator will work under the direction of the Program and Medical Directors for the Pediatric Advocacy Program. The Program Manager will provide support and training as needed. Previous coordinators working with this team have gone on to attend medical school or complete doctoral programs in public health.

Duties include:
  • Lead the implementation of early education programming across four mid-Peninsula clinics.
  • Provides support to pediatric residents working on individual community-based advocacy projects.
  • Assist the advocacy team and pediatric residents on several community-engaged service and research projects.
  • Attends community outreach meetings and be a liaison with multiple community partners.
  • May be assigned to special projects and/or other programmatic duties as needed.
  • Interact with the principal investigator regularly, ensuring patient safety and adherence to proper study conduct.
  • Help prepare manuscripts and reports, including preparing tables and formatting references.
  • Provide administrative support to the team.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in public health or related field.
  • Previous experience working on community-engaged research projects.
  • Interest in working in a position for at least two (2) years.
  • Understanding of statistics and familiarity with SPSS (quantitative) and Dedoose (qualitative), or similar data analysis software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to drive to off-site locations for study recruitment and data collection.
  • Ability to work independently with deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human study participants

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

    Bachelor of Arts degree in an applicable social science related field, or combination of education and relevant experience in an applicable social science.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
  • General understanding of scientific theory and methods, typically gained through completion of an undergraduate degree in a related field.
  • General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with human study participants

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk-based computer tasks, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, writing by hand, and sort/file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely twist/bend/stoop/squat, kneel/crawl, rarely reach/work above shoulders, and operates foot and/or hand controls.
