The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is an internationally recognized leader in pharmacy practice, education, and pharmaceutical sciences research. The School’s vision is to be a premier academic institution at the forefront of discovery and innovation in pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences education, practice, and research positively impacting human health worldwide, with a mission to develop leaders and innovators in pharmacy education, pharmacy practice, and pharmaceutical sciences.

The Division of Practice Advancement and Clinical Education (PACE) is one of five divisions in the School (https://pharmacy.unc.edu/divisions/). Through the creation of new Centers within the School; new partnerships across the state, nation, and globe; the recruitment of a diverse faculty with expertise and experience in advanced pharmacy practice as well as educational research, the Division has positioned itself for significant impact in practice, education, and research.

The PACE Division is comprised of approximately 32 full-time faculty, which represents 19 nontenure, clinical track faculty; 7 tenure track faculty; 4 research track faculty; and 2 professors of the practice. Of the 32 faculty, 5 are based in Asheville, with the remaining 27 based in Chapel Hill. In addition, the Division provides co-funded support for 17 clinical adjunct faculty and engages an additional 60 adjunct faculty members across North Carolina.

The Division is uniquely aligned with three of the School’s Centers: the Center for Medication Optimization (CMO, https://pharmacy.unc.edu/research/centers/cmo/); the Center for Innovative Pharmacy Education and Research (CIPhER, https://pharmacy.unc.edu/research/cipher/); and the Center for Innovation in Pharmacy Simulation (CIPS, https://pharmacy.unc.edu/research/centers/cips/).

Notably, the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy is one of three partners in PharmAlliance. PharmAlliance is a unique international partnership between three global leaders in pharmacy education: the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Monash University, and University College London. The Division faculty play an important role in advancing the mission of PharmAlliance. More information about PharmAlliance can be found at https://pharmacy.unc.edu/about/global-engagement/global-engagement-initiatives/pharmalliance/.

In addition to Asheville being home to one of the School’s two campuses, the School is a key partner in the establishment and expansion of practice, education, and research efforts through the UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC. This is a unique interdisciplinary collaboration between Mission Area Health Education Center (MAHEC), the University of North Carolina Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health, and Dentistry as well as the School of Nursing at Western Carolina University. UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC aims to be a premier healthcare research center dedicated to addressing the critical unmet healthcare needs in Western, North Carolina through integration of clinical practice, education, and research for impact throughout the state and beyond. Division faculty, in collaboration with others, will be integral to the success of UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC.
