DescriptionJob Purpose: Supervise the accounting activities within a large and/or organizationally complex unit. Areas of responsibility typically include budgets, financial/accounting reporting, sponsored project accounting and financial records maintenance. Responsible for setting employee goals, assessing performance, providing feedback and making pay recommendations.

 Major Responsibilities:
  • Supervise/coordinate the formulation and administration of unit(s) budget; prepare financial forecasts.
  • Oversee preparation and distribution of unit financial reports.
  • Oversee maintenance of accounting and financial records including chart of accounts.
  • May supervise accounting related activities associated with sponsored projects to include establishment through closeout.
  • Administer and interpret Institute and unit accounting policies and applicable regulatory guidelines.
  • May review and approve incoming and outgoing invoices.
  • Organize unit accounting staff, define responsibilities, monitor and direct staff activities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Work Experience: Five years job related experience.
  • Certifications: N/A
  • Skills: This job requires the application of accounting principles and practices, especially as they relate to academic administration, fund management and project accounting. Additional requirements include budget administration; knowledge and application of government accounting rules and regulation; supervisory skills and communications.

  • QualificationsPreferred Qualifications:

  • Timesheet Processing:  Process and reconcile biweekly and monthly timesheets to Institute payroll.  Resolve discrepancies timely and assist employees with system access, assist in functional support, and provide guidance on timekeeping policy.
  • Supervise staff:  Monitor and assign duties, assess performance, train and support on daily tasks and special projects.
  • PSF processing:  Ensure PSFs are processed timely and accurately to ensure setup and correct information prior to payroll processing.  Reconcile employee data between GTRI accounting system and Institute records.
