Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs

The University of Wisconsin System invites nominations and applications for a visionary and forward-thinking leader as the next Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs (VPASA) who will continue to enhance the System's commitment to academic excellence, student success, community engagement, and shared governance. This position offers a unique opportunity for a leader in academic and student affairs to engage a broad array of outstanding universities in the development and delivery of innovative programs.

The UW System is one of the largest systems of public higher education in the country, serving more than 170,000 students each year and employing approximately 39,000 faculty and staff statewide. It is made up of two doctoral institutions, 11 four-year universities, 13 two-year branch campuses, and a statewide extension network with offices in every county. Together, these institutions are a tremendous academic, cultural, and economic resource for Wisconsin, the nation, and the world.

The Position
The Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, in collaboration with UW System institutions, their senior administrators, faculty, staff and students, provides the vision and leadership to ensure that:
• The UW System is a national leader in serving the public higher education needs of the state through its mission of teaching and learning, research, and service;
• Wisconsin citizens have access to, and success in, the highest quality educational experiences;
• UW System and institutions model Inclusive Excellence, so that students are prepared for the challenges of life and work in an increasingly diverse and global world;
• The UW System serves the educational, economic, and cultural needs of the state of Wisconsin.

In all these activities, the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs works closely with the UW System President, the other Vice Presidents, and President's Executive Committee, and with the Chancellors, Provosts, and Senior Student Affairs Officers of the UW System institutions. The Vice President also serves as the senior liaison for the Education Committee of the Board of Regents and can expect to interact with multiple State of Wisconsin offices.

The successful applicant for the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs must demonstrate the following:
• Evidence of progressively more responsible higher education leadership experience including significant experience at the Dean or equivalent level;
• Demonstrated appreciation of quality teaching, service, and scholarship;
• Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge about diversity, equity, and inclusion as critical components of academic excellence and student success; and
• Evidence of excellent management skills in an academic setting.
