Position Summary:
CU Health Plan is located at the Office of the President in uptown Denver. The CU Health Plan department provides the Employers of the University of Colorado Health and Welfare Trust with administrative services. The department provides functional and technical expertise in the areas of benefit design, finance, accounting, data and reporting and vendor management.
Are you a versatile storyteller with a concise and compelling communication background who’s as comfortable composing a snappy tweet as you are crafting a news story? The CU Health Plan department is looking for a Communication and Graphic Design Coordinator to join our plan administration team. The Communication and Graphic Design Coordinator is responsible for creating audience-appropriate content that promotes our services and programs to the Trust employers and their 41,000+ employees and retirees. This creative writing-intensive position will be responsible for producing compelling marketing and editorial content for emails, event campaigns, employer publications, website content management, print collateral, social media, and other outlets. This position requires creativity, versatility, and a passion for finding new, engaging ways to tell a story, as well as the technical knowledge to utilize applicable marketing vehicles. The Communication Coordinator reports to the Data & Actuarial Consulting Director and is exempt from the State of Colorado Classified Staff system.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesDuties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- Compose and/or edit articles and marketing copy for employee publications and newsletters, social media, emails, blog posts, posters, and video scripts.
- Conduct interviews with our business partners to gain insights to new stories and processes.
- Maintain a positive customer service relationship with Trust employers and vendors.
- Distribute and post communications materials via the CU Health Plan/Be Colorado and Trust website, blogs, social media, calendars, and databases.
- Prepare and deliver presentations and materials for meetings and events.
- Interact with our social media followers to create a positive influence for the brand and image.
- Contribute to all technical aspects of production, which may include:
- Laying out copy and images using Microsoft Excel
- Producing charts and other graphics using Microsoft Excel
- Selecting and manipulating photos using the Adobe design suite
- Provide proofreading, quality control, print coordination, file preparation, and edits existing communication pieces.
- Update and select photos and visuals for digital communications including the website and intranet.
- Produce brochures, newsletters, Web graphics, informational graphics, materials for events, signage, direct mail pieces, and other projects in multiple media.
- Implement templates for recently developed department branding, and play a role to ensure their consistent usage.
- Stay abreast of current marketing trends and implements new mediums as necessary.
To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:
- Knowledge of social media outlets, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and Vimeo and how to best use them for business communications.
- Knowledge of graphic design principles.
- Knowledge of communication best practices.
- Skilled in crafting compelling copy for publications, Web, email, or other marketing channels
- Skilled in using Adobe Creative Suite products including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PowerPoint and/or similar software programs.
- Skilled in utilizing different web content management systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize information in a clear and concise manner.
- Creative thinking skills that allow devising new and out-of-the box ideas to deliver effective messages to employees.
- Ability to generate story ideas for department newsletters and publications.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Diligent work ethic and desire to grow professionally.
- Ability to provide exceptional attention to detail.
- Skilled in and ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary: Starts at $58,000 but is commensurate with skills and experience

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education or equivalent professional experience. The educational requirement may be substituted by professional experience on a year for year basis.
- Three (3) years of combined experience in communications and graphic design or similar.
- Demonstrated marketing and/or graphic design experience in a healthcare and/or healthcare insurance environment.
- Experience with email marketing tools, such as SalesForce Marketing Cloud.
