The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a Study Abroad Advisor on the Dahlonega campus. The Study Abroad Advisor is responsible for coordinating and advising students going on study abroad programs. The SA Advisor is the primary contact for students who are interested in study abroad. The SA advisor provides accurate and timely information to students, faculty, and staff regarding study abroad opportunities. The SA Advisor works with programs at the university and across the state in order to give the greatest variety of opportunities to our students. The SA Advisor will be responsible for marketing and promoting study abroad programs, working within a team to manage a diverse program portfolio including faculty-led programs, exchanges, consortia, and providers.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

The Study Abroad Advisor will:

  • Advise undergraduate students regarding study abroad opportunities on the university, state, and national level; Advise students on pre-departure information and on-site activities of study abroad programs; Act as the primary resource for students about study abroad programs on campus
  • Coordinate study abroad information forums; Manage the marketing of study abroad to the campus, utilize social media to market departmental programs and initiatives; Coordinate and conduct study abroad workshops; Assist in the coordination of international education week; Manage the study abroad portion of the Center for Global Engagement website; Conduct presentations to classes about study abroad programs on campus.
  • Work with faculty led study abroad programs. Assist study abroad program directors with financial management, insurance issues, and risk management issues.
  • Facilitate credit transfer of student classes abroad; Process students participating in exchange, consortia, and provider programs; ; Track and serve in selection panels for Study Abroad Scholarships ;
  • Manage and enter study abroad information and data in Terra Dotta. Generate reports for CGE administrators, the USG Office of International Education, and other national and international organizations.
  • Participate at state Level study abroad meetings.
  • Drive international students to and from the airport with the International Student and Scholar Advisor
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Must have excellent working knowledge of MS Office and other computer software.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Predisposition to work as a team member in a dynamic and flexible environment.
Certifications/Licenses & Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • One year of experience in administration or higher education setting (international office, student support services, advising, financial aid, registrar, orientation, residence life, peer mentor/tutor, etc.).
  • Valid Class “C” Driver’s License
  • Some evening and weekend hours required.
