The Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks an Associate Director for the Master of Science in Management (MSM) program. This role requires providing strategic direction, cultural leadership, program lifecycle design and management, and operational accountability. The Associate Director reports to the Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs and will work closely with the academic director and functional area leaders in the College (marketing, recruiting, student services, career services, alumni relations) to deliver excellent graduate education experiences.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a cultural leader for the program. Set program direction in coordination with the Assistant Dean and the Academic Director.
  • Develop and ensure the successful execution of a professional development plan for the program that creates a competitive advantage for students and complements the classroom experiencea.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Director to manage curriculum update efforts, including preparing proposals for committee review, coordinating changes for the academic and course catalogs, and submitting other relevant changes to outside agencies as needed.
  • Define and achieve class targets and profiles, and work with the Director of Recruiting and Admissions in executing a plan to achieve documented goals.
  • Conduct informational and/or admissions interviews and evaluate candidates for admission.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Director and Business Graduate Program support staff to monitor student progress toward meeting all course requirements for the degree and working with any academic problems that arise.
  • Coordinate with Business Career Services to develop and implement a placement strategy for graduates of the MSM program. Engage with Business Career Services staff to provide services in support of students’ job-seeking activities.
  • Partner with Illinois Business Consulting, Action Learning leads, and other campus partners to provide unmatched experiential learning opportunities.
  • Manage annual budget planning process.
  • Assist with AACSB accreditation reporting requirements and other academic program reviews by collecting and synthesizing data, validating data accuracy, and meeting submission deadlines.
  • Participate in recruiting and admission events organized by Business Graduate Programs to represent the MSM program, engaging faculty and other staff to attend as warranted.
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Gies Office of Advancement, a strategy to engage with MSM program alums on a continual basis. Attend events organized by the Office Advancement that include MSM alums or engage others to attend as warranted.
  • Lead cross-campus discussions with other Colleges and units regarding collaboration opportunities. Develop and implement partnerships for students in those units to allow them to enroll in the MSM program upon completion of their undergraduate degree.

Required Qualifications: Education Required:

Bachelor's degree

Preferred:

Master's degree

Experience Required: 2 years experience in higher education administration, corporate engagement, talent development, or alumni relations.

Preferred: Experience leading, directing or working with graduate programs from an AACSB-accredited institution 3-5 years experience in higher education administration, corporate engagement, talent development, and alumni relations.Experience working with blended learning and modern, continuing-education models.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Strong analytical, organizational, and creative problem-solving skills Proven ability to set and achieve stretch goals. Demonstrated understanding of best practices for globally-recognized management programs.

Appointment Status: This is a full-time (100%) academic professional position appointment on a 12-month basis. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The proposed starting date is as soon as possible after the closing date.

Academic Resources

Research

Students and scholars find the University an ideal place to conduct research. The Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology is a model for interdisciplinary research, where eighteen research groups from sixteen University departments work within and across three broadly defined themes: biological intelligence, human-computer intelligent interaction, and molecular and electronic nanostructures. The University is also home to the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

Undergraduate Education

The University has a fundamental commitment to undergraduate education. Nearly 28,000 undergraduate students are enrolled in nine undergraduate divisions, which together offer some 4,000 courses in more than 150 fields of study.

Undergraduate admission is highly selective. In the 2001 freshman class, students in the middle 50% had ACT scores between 25 and 30 and ranked between the 83rd and 96th percentiles of their high school graduating classes.

The University enrolls over 9,000 graduate and professional students in more than 100 disciplines. It is among the top five universities in number of earned doctorates awarded annually in the United States.

Also integral to the University's mission is a commitment to public engagement. Each year about 65,000 Illinois residents participate in scores of conferences, institutes, courses, and workshops presented statewide. Research and class projects take students and professors off campus to share expertise and technical support with Illinois farmers, manufacturing firms, and businesses. In a typical year, student volunteers log more than 60,000 volunteer hours.

The Arts

A major center for the arts, the campus attracts dozens of nationally and internationally renowned artists each year to its widely acclaimed Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. The University also supports two major museums: the Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion; and the Spurlock Museum, a museum of world history and culture. 

Other major facilities include the multipurpose Assembly Hall (16,500 seats); Memorial Stadium (70,000 seats), site of Big Ten Conference football games; and the Intramural-Physical Education Building, one of the largest recreational facilities of its kind on a university campus.
