Hofstra University is a dynamic community of more than 11,000 students from around the world who are dedicated to civic engagement, academic excellence and becoming leaders in their communities and their careers.Description:The Testing Accommodations Assistant will be responsible for the implementation of testing accommodations for all students registered with Student Access Services. This includes communicating with students and faculty to make all appropriate arrangements, maintaining academic integrity and exam security, proctoring and supervising all testing services. The Testing Accommodations Assistant will also help maintain all computer equipment and assistive technology utilized in the testing center.

Essential duties:
•Receive and process sign up forms from students
•Communicate with faculty to make necessary arrangements for exams to be delivered and returned while maintaining security
•Insure that accommodations are provided consistently
•Support students effectively during testing sessions
•Assist with the coordination of student support staff as needed
•Support the operational needs of the department during slow testing times

Educational responsibilities:
•Provide advice, training and technical support to faculty and administrators related to the testing needs of students with disabilities
•Promote the application of Universal Design in all campus programs and services
•Work collaboratively with other members of the university, serving as an advocate for issues regarding students with disabilities

Additional responsibilities:
•Keep current on new research and developments in disability services, including the legal aspects of this work
•Support the programming efforts of the university and of the Division of Student Affairs, including Family Weekend, Fall Open House, Orientation, Commencement, etc.
•Serve on divisional or university-wide committees, as needed
•Actively support and attend DSA and University-wide events
•Perform other duties as required

Direct supervisor: The Testing Accommodations Assistant reports to the Intake and Accommodations Manager.

Supervisory responsibilities: The Testing Accommodations Assistant has no supervisory duties
Qualifications:Master's degree in Special Education, Disability Services or related field is required.
Experience working with students in a higher education setting is required.
Demonstrate knowledge of assistive technology and its applications in a higher education setting. Candidate will be collaborative, organized, and detail oriented. Be a proactive self-starter who is comfortable in a fast-paced collaborative environment.
Must demonstrate cultural competence and the ability to work with students from diverse populations. Candidate will have an established record of accomplishment promoting student development programs and cultivating positive relationships in a comprehensive student-centered organization. Have a passion for and experience with working with students, families, and colleagues of diverse backgrounds. Have strong quantitative and analytical skills, and be comfortable with appropriate technologies including Banner, Access Databases and Microsoft Excel. Candidate will have demonstrated leadership and supervisory capabilities.
