Primary responsibilities will include teaching special education courses to elementary education and middle and secondary education majors. Additional responsibilities will include fieldwork supervision, scholarly production, curriculum development, student advising, and appropriate institutional/community service.
The School of Education houses Gordon’s first baccalaureate program, a BSED in Elementary/Special Education designed to educate students to teach in P-5 regular education classrooms as well as in numerous special education settings. Additional baccalaureate teaching certification programs in secondary biology, English, history and mathematics were launched in the last two academic years. Middle grades education has been approved by the Georgia Board of and began accepting candidates in 2016. There are currently 6 tenure-track faculty members in the School of Education, each of whom has an earned doctorate.
Gordon State College has served the community and region continuously since its founding in 1852, and has been a unit in the University System of Georgia since 1972. After more than three decades of serving the state as a residential two-year college, in 2006 Gordon College was named a state college and asked to develop selected four year programs to address critical state needs. In May, 2009 the College graduated its first baccalaureate class of 28 early childhood education majors. In Fall 2010 the College launched baccalaureate majors in nursing, mathematics, and biology. In 2011 majors in English and history were added. A middle grades education program was recently approved by the Board of Regents and added in 2016. In 2012, the name of the college was changed to Gordon State College. Gordon State College serves more than 4000 students with the excellent dedication of more than 120 full-time faculty.
The main campus of Gordon State College is in Barnesville, Georgia, a lovely town located an hour south of Atlanta, Georgia. Students and faculty enjoy the pleasures of small town living together with access to the many attractions of a major metropolitan center and an international airport.
Minimum Qualifications:Earned doctorate in special education, or related field of special education.
Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching including success and commitment to teaching students from diverse populations
Demonstrated potential for scholarly productivity
Minimum of three years P-12 teaching experience.
