Exempt salaried position. Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week plus evening and weekend activities.

Basic Function

Administer various approaches to formal and informal conflict resolution, participate in related training, education, and outreach, and provide supervision for an early-career professional in their part-time liaison role with the office, as well as for volunteer facilitators and board members. Participate in the on-call rotation to support students’ well-being.

Essential Job Functions

Serve as a member of the Conflict Resolution team. Contribute to the continued development and advancement of an innovative and engaging approach to community building and education based on Denison’s mission, leadership principles, commitment to civic engagement, creative problem solving, and elements of individual and community well-being. Administer informal and formal methods of conflict resolution to students and affected community members.

Assess, evaluate, and update programs and services to match the mission of the college, vision of the department and core student learning outcomes.

Supervise and train student and professional staff, prioritizing dialogue across difference, healthy approaches to conflict resolution, and community development.

Maintain high visibility and engagement with the student body and campus community at university events; work effectively with a culturally diverse population of students to coach, mentor and support dynamic needs.

Coordinate and design programmatic and other co-curricular initiatives (grounded in civic engagement, diversity, leadership development and creative problem solving), managing the assigned program budget and maintain records.

Build strong, collaborative relationships with campus partners, students, faculty/staff and parents; and communicate regularly with these partners.

Employ appreciative advising and positive psychology practices in communication and interactions with students, colleagues and other constituencies.

Sustain collegial relationships with colleagues in Residential Communities, the Department of Student Housing Operations and Planning, the Dean of Students, the Dean of First-Year Students, and Athletics, among others. Demonstrate generous support to the work of colleagues in Student Development as well as faculty and staff across the college.

Strive to create a culture characterized by creativity and innovation in problem solving, optimism, individual initiative, a shared sense of responsibility, the intentional cultivation of trust, and attention to clear and timely communication.

Serve as an on-call professional for the University.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned Bachelor’s degree and minimum of three years related professional experience are required. Ability to accommodate adapted work hours, including some evening and weekend work hours. Must have a current, valid driver’s license and must be insurable under Denison’s liability insurance policy.

Must be able to work with diverse groups of people, possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have an understanding and appreciation for the liberal arts and residential colleges.

Additional skills: Strong desire to build relationships with students, colleagues, and college partners. Communicate effectively orally and in writing, including the ability to engage one-on-one and in a public forum. Lead relationally with exceptional interpersonal skills; integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to make difficult decisions.

Manage multiple projects and initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

An earned Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Social Work, or other related advanced degree is preferred. Experience working with mediation and restorative justice.
