Associate General Counsel,Employment and Labor Attorney

District Office The City Colleges of Chicago (CCC)is made up of seven colleges, the largest community college system in Illinoisand one of the largest nationally.  Primary ObjectiveProvide timely and sound legal services concerning issues arisingin the context of higher education, including employment, labor  contracts, constitutional, legislative andregulatory matters (e.g., free speech, FERPA, Title IX, discrimination andharassment, Clery, VAWA, and data privacy and security), student privacyrights, legal compliance and risk management. 


Essential Duties
  • Defend the District in state and federal litigation and administrative proceedings (act as trial counsel, draft motions, briefs, etc.) and, when applicable, manage outside counsel with respect to litigation or other matters
  • Respond to EEOC, IDHR, IDL and/or OCR charges /complaints, including internal investigations, filings, interviews, fact finding conferences, mediations and appeals
  • Handle all Union related arbitrations and ULPs, including internal investigations, written submissions and hearings
  • Handle and direct outside counsel in labor negotiations for open labor contracts
  • Work with District constituents to implement labor contracts
  • Respond to questions/issues regarding contract interpretation from District constituents


QualificationsRequired
  • Law degree from anaccredited institution;
  • Admission in good standing to the Illinois Bar;
  • At least 8 years’ experience in employmentlaw; and
  • Experience in litigation,administrative proceedings, ADR, and conflict resolution:
Preferred
  • Ability to quickly graspnew concepts and assignments, to meet deadlines, to manage and revisepriorities consistent with the highest needs of the institution, and to proactivelyfollow-through to ensure completion of projects in a timely manner withoutclose supervision;
  • Experience in labor negotiationsand contract matters and labor relations law:
  • Experience providing legal counselto an institution of higher education;
  • Admission in good standing to the U.S.District Court for the Northern District of Illinois;
  • Experience in student affairs law and issues;
  • Demonstrated ability tohandle complex legal matters and to advise clients with confidence andcredibility; and
  • Experience preparing and presentinggroup training.

Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within 6months of hire.
