The Boulder Experimental Electronics and Manufacturing (BEEM) Laboratory in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU) is seeking a driven, multi-skilled individual for a 2 year postdoctoral position to study and develop additively manufactured, biodegradable electronic systems for near-real-time, in-situ monitoring of soil conditions (moisture, nutrient concentration, etc.). This transdisciplinary position will address a range of areas, including materials, devices, processes and readout methods for printed and biodegradable electronics. In addition to the primary technical research role, the individual holding this position will also take on some general management and leadership tasks within the lab, will actively collaborate and communicate with external groups working on the project, and will spend a portion of their time developing plans for bringing the developed technology to market.Who We Are Our research is focused at the intersection of additive manufacturing, novel materials, and functional devices. We use printing as a method to fabricate unconventional electronic components and systems that can be readily customized, mechanically flexible and conformable, large area, widely distributed, biocompatible, and/or controllably transient. These devices can find application in a broad range of areas including health care, structural and environmental monitoring, agriculture, robotics, energy generation and storage, waste reduction and data security.
More information about the BEEM Lab is available on the website: www.colorado.edu/lab/whiting and more details about the project itself can be found in a recent article: http://www.colorado.edu/mechanical/2019/02/05/biodegradable-sensors-aim-make-farming-more-efficient. What You Should Know
