The Department of Cell Biology, in the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking candidates for a full-time Research Scientist position. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing methods to examine the developmental regulation of the Wolffian/epididymal duct. The incumbent will be expected to design, perform experiments and analyze data using contemporary statistical software supporting the goals of the lab with minimal supervision of the PI. Research in the lab utilizes transgenic mouse lines, in vitro culture, real time live imaging, light, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, atomic force microscopy and 3D-imaging. The incumbent will attend weekly meetings with the Principal Investigator to discuss experimental results, conducts literature searches, and presents results in lab meetings. The incumbent works independently and ethically, documents all research data appropriately, and assists/teaches other members of the lab. The ideal candidate will be a highly-motivated individual with excellent organizational and communication skills. Previous teaching experience is preferable.

A PhD degree in animal science/reproductive biology is required at the time of hire. At least three (3) years of post-doctoral professional experience with biomedical image analysis and small animal surgery and are also required. Qualified candidates must have experience providing leadership to small groups and must be able to work independently once objectives are defined and methods of approach have been set. They must have good track record of scientific publication in the field. Knowledge of research grant and proposal writing is highly preferred.

Note: This is a one-year, end-dated position, although a second year is possible but not guaranteed. The continuation of this end-dated position is contingent upon the continuation of funding and other factors.
