The Director of Nursing Clinical Competencies is responsible for the direction and management of the School of Nursing clinical competencies and clinical labs to meet program curriculum standards and accrediting bodies. The position provides supervision and leadership with the operation of the Nursing Skill and Assessment labs in Medical and Homestead Campuses and works with community partners in the integration of the latest clinical evidence based practices. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

    Oversees the development and curriculum integration of the latest clinical evidence-based practices for the School of NursingSupervises personnel in the Nursing Skill and Assessment Labs in Homestead and Medical campusesIdentifies grant opportunities; assists in writing responses; administers and manages multiple program grantsCollaborates with the Chairperson in the planning and maintenance of the Nursing Skill and Assessment LabsEducates and trains students, faculty and staff in the latest clinical evidence-based practicesArticulates the selection of instructional medical equipment, supplies, software titles and simulators with the Nursing Department chairs and deansKeeps abreast of current trends and best practices in instructional and information technologyOversees long-range planning, acquisition strategies, continued development of resources such as medical equipment, human simulators and othersCoordinates installation and upgrade projects involving medical equipment, human patient simulators, and virtual reality applications from inception to implementationPrograms and validates complex patient data that will be transferred to human patient simulators and electronic medical record (EMR) to support learning objectives Ensures data evaluation and testing across multiples systems such as the OMNICENTRAL, EMR and patient simulatorsEnsures clinical policies and procedures complies with state and federal regulations, OSHA, COLA and CLIA requirementsEducates students when practicing clinical skills in the lab Recommends operational changes to enhance the effectiveness of the Nursing Skills Lab in serving students and faculty membersInterfaces with sales representatives, suppliers of equipment and medical supplies

    Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) from a regionally accredited institution and four (4) years of experience in nursing educationActive Florida Registered Nurse license

  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and proceduresKnowledge of requirements of accreditation agencies such as SACS, ACEN and CCNEKnowledge of Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility Advanced knowledge of operations systems and applications softwareKnowledge of current medical equipment and human patient simulatorsAbility to implement new technologies in order to maintain systems and processes up to dateAbility to identify strategies and support grant development to achieve the School of Nursing mission and goalsAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusionsAbility to effective supervise and train assigned staff including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignmentsDemonstrated skill in instructional technology, research computing and distributed client server administration Possess excellent organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written) Possess superior interpersonal skillsAbility to effectively present information to groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general publicAbility to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions for reporting purposes
