Summary: The Employee Relations and Training Specialist fulfills two roles for the Human Resources Department. As the Employee Relations specialist, the person in this position performs a variety of duties to promote employee welfare and to evaluate and resolve personnel, human relations, and work-related problems that adversely affect morale, health, and productivity, and consults with management to determine appropriate action. As the Training Specialist, the person in this position develops, schedules, conducts, and/or procures technical, management, and interpersonal skills training to facilitate employee onboarding, improve employee performance, and promote employee retention.

Working Hours: Specific work hours to be agreed upon by the supervisor and employee prior to the onset of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Directly supervise full-time, regular part-time and other part-time employees assigned to the position. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with College policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, and taking corrective action with employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:             

1.     Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Human Resource Management or related field.

2.     Minimum of two years employee relations, labor relations, or related Human Resources experience required.

3.     Minimum one year teaching or training experience required.

Preferred:

1.     Master’s Degree in Human Relations or Human Resource Management.

2.     Bilingual Spanish/English.

3.     Community College experience.

4.     Experience working in a unionized environment.

5.     Human Resources certification (e.g. SHRM or HRCI)

6.     Knowledge of state and federal employment and labor laws.

Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet skills. Must be willing and able to learn new software to develop and provide employee training.
