Basic Function

Located in Springfield, Virginia, NOVA’s Medical Education Campus (MEC) is a technologically sophisticated and specialized campus dedicated to the education and clinical preparation of Healthcare professionals. As the academic leader of the Nursing and Clinical Services Division, the Dean reports directly to the Medical Education Campus Provost. The Dean of Nursing and Clinical Services has a scholarly vision and exceptional leadership qualities in his/her ability to advance the College’s distinctive mission and vision, strategic goals, and policies and procedures, as well as administrative decisions, to the Nursing and Clinical Services Division faculty, staff and students. Creates and develops an effective, collegial environment that fosters innovation and excellence in nursing education, clinical practice, and community service. This position will be responsible for daily operations, budget preparation, fiscal administration, and overall management of the Nursing and Clinical Services Division.

Duties and Responsibilities

As the academic leader of the Nursing and Clinical Services Division, the Dean reports directly to the Medical Education Campus Provost. The Dean ensures program innovation, implementation, and evaluation; faculty/staff hiring, mentoring, fiscal management, and collaboration with leaders in the program’s partnerships; and community and professional outreach. Will oversee and sustain full Virginia Board of Nursing approval and ACEN accreditation of the nursing program as well as specialized programmatic accreditation of other clinical services programs. The Dean will participate in new program development, curriculum management, assessment of student learning outcomes and will assure compliance with all college and programmatic accreditation requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field;
Current Virginia nursing license (or eligibility to obtain license); Valid driver’s license, this position requires frequent travel within the service area ; Eligible to operate a state vehicle (car, small van)

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum qualifications and significant experience as an academic leader of a clinical program ; previous experience as a site visitor for a specialized programmatic accreditation authority or for regional accreditation authority. Previous experience with specific accrediting and licensing agencies and processes such as ACEN/CCNE and Virginia Board of Nursing as well as accreditors involved in other clinical programs. Previous experience with and commitment to Associate Degree programs and curriculum and teaching at the community college level.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Commitment to academic excellence, to include three years of successful progressive academic leadership experience, for example, a Dean or Assistant Dean in higher education. Excellent organizational, priority management, teamwork skills, and effective use of information technology for communication and decision-support. Knowledge and experience with online and simulation instructional delivery and technology initiatives. Strong interpersonal, team building and both written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to nursing and clinical programs, including compliance and regulatory agencies. Proficient skills and experience in Microsoft Office computer software systems that includes Word, Excel, and Power Point. Knowledge of constituencies served by the college.
