Basic Function

The Student Life Program Administrator oversees the supervision, budgeting, planning, scheduling, operations, and programs under the auspices of the Campus Student Life Office. In addition, the Program Administrator helps establish and enforce college and campus policies and procedures for student engagement activities including, but not limited to, involvement in student clubs/organizations, student leadership training and development, social and cultural events, research best practices in life, campus-based and college-wide awards ceremonies and alcohol tobacco and other drug awareness and programming for the campus. The position implements a strategic approach to student engagement through campus-wide events and programming. The Student Life Program Administrator will engage directly with students by providing multifaceted (social, educational, cultural, etc.) opportunities for student involvement, extra-curricular and co-curricular initiatives

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include oversight and leadership for student clubs and interest groups, mentoring and supporting the Student Government Association, developing and implementing dynamic leadership programs and initiatives for the student body at large, working with special student populations (i.e. veterans, adults, students with disabilities, international students) to provide appropriate programming and support, and developing training and recognition programs for student leaders. Position will support cultural and educational programs, social activities, awareness programs, and rules/regulations mandated by Federal and state laws (i.e. FERPA, Clery Act, Title IX, and Violence Against Women Act). The use of student learning outcomes and assessment is required. Advises club leaders and club advisors on program development, purchasing procedures, College policies, and federal and state law. Other responsibilities include collaborating with faculty and staff to establish and support teaching and learning, training student organization advisors, coordinating travel and volunteer opportunities for NOVA students, coordinating with campus police in planning student activities, and significant budget management. Serves as primary point of contact for Alcohol and Drugs awareness and programming at the campus level. The position will develop effective systems for disseminating information about student life activities. Other duties include developing leadership development training programs and initiatives and the creation of recognition opportunities for student leaders, advising the Student Government Association and overseeing the management of all Student Activities Revenue accounts and all individual club accounts. Position works with Shared Services for required purchasing needs to ensure compliance with state rules and regulations. The Program Administrator will conduct assessment for student activities, student organizations, and special initiatives sponsored by the Office of Student Life.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Development, Education, Business Administration, Athletics Management or related field. Experience working in an academic environment. Program planning and implementation experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in an education related field or Student Development, Business Administration, or Communications. Budgetary experience.

Demonstrated success in strategic planning for Student Life and assessing student learning outcomes in extra-curricular activities.
Strong skills in advising student organizations and working with student leaders.
Ability to develop, implement and evaluate student leadership programs.
Knowledge of best practices and theory in working with Student Life programs and student leadership.
Outstanding program planning, implementation and evaluation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to mediate conflicts successfully.
Must be able to work flexible hours to include evenings and weekends and out of state travel.
Excellent organizational abilities.
Strong supervisory skills.
Ability to work with students and faculty advisors in campus organizations.
Ability to mediate conflicts and solve problems as they arise.
Ability to work effectively with a highly diverse student population.
Knowledge of student development theory and ability to train staff in best practices for student life professionals, and engage theories in decision making for programs and activities.
Strong budget development and management skills.
Ability to understand and follow college state, and federal purchasing policies.
Ability to work with vendors and outside agencies in planning and implementing large scale events and programs.
Ability to work collaboratively within large, complex educational organizations and develop ties with the community.
Knowledge of college policies and procedures, academic requirements and laws related to college administration.
Ability to communicate accurately, both orally and in writing. Strong teaching and public speaking skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work with computer programs such as Student Information Systems, MS Word, EXCEL, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Must possess excellent organizational skills and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Program Administrator also must have the ability to work well with a highly diverse campus population.
