Goucher College invites applications from scholars who are looking for an opportunity to join the innovative and evolving study of Communication and Media Studies within the College’s Center for Art and Media, as a Visiting Assistant Professor for 2019-20, with a specialization in the study of race and ethnicity in audiovisual media and digital culture. The professor/student relationship is at the heart of our mission, and we seek faculty who have a strong commitment to teaching students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

The Center seeks a teacher and scholar who will have completed a Ph.D. in Communication, Film Studies, Media Studies, Race and Ethnic Studies, or related department and disciplines, by August 2019, and has full-time teaching experience.  The position, beginning in August 2019, has a teaching load of 3 courses per semester. The candidate should have media’s intersection with race and ethnicity as a central research and pedagogical specialty, using critical race theory, film theory, cultural studies, and /or qualitative analysis as touchstones through which we can understand questions of access and representation. We also value highly expertise in teaching courses on writing for electronic media.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach Race and Ethnicity in Film and Media and Writing for Film, Television, and Radio in the Fall semester, and will have the ability to teach a range of courses using critical and cultural approaches in film and media history, theory, and criticism, and/or experience in teaching digital media production. While not guaranteed, there is a possibility of continuation of the position past 2019-20.

Communication and Media Studies has approximately 60 undergraduate majors and offers a curriculum that integrates critical media studies, film studies, journalism, new media, video and audio production, and photography.
