Job Description

POSITION TITLE: ADJUNCT INSTRUCTOR, Medical Assisting
STATUS:Adjunct
DEPARTMENT: Nursing, Health and Public Services
DIVISION: Academic Affairs
UNION:Adjunct
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
REPORTS TO:Department Chair
PLACEMENT: Faculty
MINIMUM PAY RATE:Refer to current adjunct faculty contract

POSITION SUMMARY
Adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Demonstrate respect for students; understand learning styles and apply understanding to institution-related activities; demonstrate integrity and promote diversity and open communications. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Provide in-class instruction/lecture and hands-on training that meets the program and course objectives. (In two-four hour sessions)
2.Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities.
3.Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses.
4.Comply with departmental curriculum, grading standards, attendance policies, textbook choices, and assessments, and other established processes.
5.Return college reports, credentials, and other requested documentation in a timely manner; effectively communicate with appropriate staff and chair.
6.Comply with all legal and ethical obligations, including FERPA, ADA, and other regulatory legislations. Communicate discrepancies to appropriate officials.
7.Possess and maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to the assigned course load; and keep informed of current trends in the medical assisting field and health care.
8.Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
9.Teach classes during non-traditional times (evenings and weekends) and at clinical and other campus sites as needed.
10.Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College adjunct faculty contract.
11.Participate in appropriate departmental meetings.
12.Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
13.Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1.Graduate of accredited Medical Assisting, or related program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Medical Assisting, or related field, and hold at least an associate degree; or Graduate of otherwise recognized training entity in Medical Assisting, or related field, and hold at least an associate degree; or; Graduate of institution located outside of the United States and its territories in Medical Assisting, or related field, and hold at least an associate degree.
2.Additionally, the faculty member possesses three (3) years of occupational experience in Medical Assisting or related field;
3.Hold a current certification or other credential from AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA.
4.Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1.Teaching experience at the collegiate level.
2.Experience at the community college level.
3.Experience in teaching online and/or using course management programs.
4.Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
1.Standard classroom equipment and software.
2.Standard hospital equipment and software.

WORKING CONDITIONS
1.Classroom, skills lab, and simulation teaching environment.
2.Clinical/hospital units.

They also contain information about crime statistics for the three previous years for all JJC campuses, property owned and controlled by JJC District 525 and on public property immediately adjacent to JJC campuses.

This information is required by law and is made available by the Joliet Junior College Police Department.
