DepartmentProfessor Dilip Soman at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management invites applications for the position of Research Associate (Limited Term) to support the mission of a newly funded Partnership Grant initiative entitled “Behaviourally Informed Organizations: Creating an Integrative Theory of Behavioural Change and Embedding it in Organizations”. This partnership will be housed at the Behavioural Economics in Action at Rotman [BEAR] research centre, which will also support the activities of the partnership.

This partnership project aims to use rigorous research to a) develop an integrated framework for behaviour change by drawing on literatures in behavioural economics, psychology, marketing and related disciplines; b) testing the framework in complex dynamic environments, namely financial inclusion, preventive health and wellness, and environment and sustainability, and c) identifying ways in which organization can best harness behavioural insights. In addition to Professor Soman, the research team includes 20 additional researchers from universities in Canada, USA and Hong Kong; as well as 18 non-academic organizations.

The incumbent will support the overall research mission of the partnership and perform research and related activities with a high degree of independence. The incumbent will design, direct, execute, analyze and present in written and oral forms practitioner and policy briefs that build on and/or take advantage of the research resources and expertise within the research team as well as the incumbent’s academic expertise.


CampusEducation:
Master’s degree in Business, Public Policy, Psychology, Economics or related field preferred. Background in the practice of behavioural insights, or being part of an organization / team applying behavioral insights to solve policy or business problems is an added advantage.

Skills:
Must have some background in applied behavioural insights, as well as experience in working with industry or government partners on behavioural insights projects. Must also know how to read, interpret and critique the results of experimental and field trials, and must know the basics of experimental design. Must have superior communication skills (oral and written); demonstrated ability to read, understand, and translate academic research; strong time management skills; able to be highly flexible on work tasks depending on unexpected requests (e.g., from media outlets).
