SUMMARY:
The Student Disability Services Coordinator is responsible for ensuring academic accommodations as defined by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act for Texas A&M University-Commerce students who are registered with Student Disability Resources and Services (SDRS). The Student Disability Services Coordinator works directly with enrolled students with disabilities to provide oversight of the testing center, educate and assist students with accommodation related needs, and work in collaboration with University stakeholders to contribute to the overall mission of SDRS.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide oversight of exam services for students under the protection of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Consult and coordinate with faculty, staff and vendors to ensure delivery of reasonable accommodations and auxiliary services such as interpreter services, CART services or any other accommodation that requires action from SDRS.
- Maintains comprehensive and current case notes and records related to the students registered with SDRS.
- Coordinate interpreter/CART contracts, interpreter/CART assignments, & interpreter/CART scheduling.
- Coordination and oversight of the note taker program.
- Coordinate alternate text requests program.
- Monitor and update service and assistance animal records.
- Assist with all aspects of the daily activities of the department (student requests, phone calls, departmental emails, walk-ins to include determination of services needed at the time such as scheduling of auxiliary services, assignment to a case manager or director, campus referral(s) and/or referral for crisis).
- Assist students with referral to campus support services and provide on-going tracking and/or communication with students in need of academic monitoring, time management services, tutoring, weekly check-in, etc.
- Attend departmental and university meetings and collaborates with other offices and agencies.
- Creates and provides outreach and training for faculty, staff and students.
- Assist with developing, implementing, and evaluating programs for students with disabilities.
- Assist with organizing and implementing professional development activities within the department.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, or related clinical area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One (1) year of related experience in counseling, clinical psychology, special education, social work and/or providing services addressing the educational, developmental, psychosocial, or disability related needs of individuals (or experience with transferable skills may be considered). Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications. Excellent communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. Ability to form and maintain effective relationships with students and monitor student progress. Ability to adhere to ADA/504 laws and regulations.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in Education, Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, or related clinical area. Knowledge of modern practices and methods of disability services. Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 relative to the educational setting. Prior experience working with people with disabilities. Prior experience working in an educational (K-12 or Higher Education) setting. Experience with Banner, AIM, and/or other data management systems. Experience with assistive technologies such as screen readers, text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and/or screen magnification software.
SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:
May supervise student workers and graduate assistants.
