The Position:
This is paraprofessional work at the action level involved in supporting student services for the STEM Center in the Science, Math, and Technology division. Under direction, the employee assists in the planning, coordination, and support of services, such as supplemental instruction, orientation, internship opportunities, special events and activities, and tours for individual and specialized programs within the program. The employee will also assist with other administrative support needs within the department. Public contact is essential and can include students, staff, other educational institutions, community and business representatives, governmental agencies and the general public, for the purpose of exchanging program information and services. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to adequately represent the college and program, and to serve as a technical resource. Consequences of errors in judgment can be costly in public relations and in employee time; however, management controls limit the risk of more serious consequences. The Program Services Coordinator can lead the work of student assistants, proctors, and other staff as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. 1. Assists in planning and facilitation of orientations, trainings, workshops, symposiums, tours, job fairs, advisory board meetings, and other special events in conjunction with management, faculty, and other staff

2. Provides coordination and direction in collaboration with MESA Center Director to tutors, Supplemental Instruction leaders, and mentors by planning and leading meetings and ensuring that a wide variety of collaborative learning strategies support student success

3. Collaborates with faculty and administration to monitor various aspects of student academic progress in their STEM pathways

4. Coordinates logistics and establishes timelines, required materials, online support services, facilities, publicity, and other program and event needs

5. Assists and participates in planning of joint events with other college departments and programs, and with outside business and community representatives

6. Serves as liaison between student program participants and various instructional and student services departments

7. Conducts follow-up to determine student needs and available program services

8. Supports the development of special programs and resources associated with the STEM center, including scholarship, internship, career, and transfer opportunities and grant-funded STEM programs

9. Sets up and maintains confidential and other files

10. Participates in presentations to small and large groups as a program and college representative

11. Communicates and exchanges information with students, staff, other educational institutions, community and business representatives, vendors, governmental agencies and the general public regarding a variety of science programs, services, eligibility requirements, policies, timelines, required forms, and other information

12. Supports the STEM Center website

13. Supports faculty and program staff in compiling and managing student learning outcome data and reporting, grant reporting processes, and updating of department websites

14. Researches and compiles statistical, narrative, financial, demographic, and other data for regular and special reports to track program participation, recruitment effectiveness, student follow-up, retention and transfer rates, program evaluation criteria, career resources and job availability, employer profiles, and other information

15. Enters, modifies, and retrieves online data

16. Plans and coordinates lay-out, graphics, photography and other artwork, editing, printing, multimedia enhancements, web page information, distribution and other services in conjunction with other staff, students and/or vendors as appropriate

17. Assists director, dean, and division administrative assistant as needed

18. Directs and coordinates the work of student assistants, test proctors, and other staff as assigned

19. Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
• A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree along with experience applicable to requirements of this position• Successful experience of increasing responsibility in education, social services, human resource or related area• Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff• Experience with program planning, implementation and evaluation• Experience with training and leading the work of others• Experience with researching, formatting, assessing and preparing data for reports and other materials• Experience with the use of a variety of computer software to track and monitor data• Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, including public speaking• Demonstrated skill in multitasking, prioritizing workloads, and working independently• Demonstrated skill in working as part of a customer service team

Physical Requirements:
This classification requires manual dexterity, the use of a keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time; pushing, pulling, reaching, and moving objects of moderate weight in order to perform the essential functions.

1. Knowledge of specific program and related college services available to students and other potential participants

2. Knowledge of applicable and available community, business, governmental and educational resources

6. Skill in interviewing, assessment and evaluation

7. Skill in respectful, tactful and sensitive interaction with people who are diverse in their academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds

8. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and efficient working relationships

9. Skill in research, compiling and formatting a variety of data for reports

10. Skill in use of the Microsoft Office Suite and web-based content management systems

11. Ability to work effectively as part of a customer-service team

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with basic graphic design and/or web design desirable.
