Nursing & Practical Nursing Program Director

Rogue Community College, a comprehensive, two-year, public community college that is one of 17 community colleges in Oregon accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and approved by the Veterans Administration as a veterans training institution,  is seeking applications for the position of Nursing & Practical Nursing Program Director.

Primarily responsible for organizing and carrying out structured learning processes for students in the Nursing and Practical Nursing programs.  In addition, instructors participate in the full range of professional and college-related activities including student advising, curriculum development, professional growth, departmental and college-wide meetings, committee activity, and community involvement.

Supervision Received 
The dean is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors and confers with the department chair in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.

Examples of Duties - Essential Functions

  • Administers the nursing and practical nursing programs.
  • Creates and maintains an environment conducive to teaching and learning, including coordination and support of faculty assignments.
  • Monitors, facilitates, and provides input into professional growth and periodic performance evaluations of faculty.
  • Coordinates program activities, delegates responsibilities to faculty as appropriate.
  • Directs academic advising activities for the programs.
  • Plans with faculty for updating of teaching materials, e.g., audiovisual materials, library holdings, new textbooks.
  • Provides a positive representation of the programs to the public.
  • Follows state rules in ensuring faculty maintain necessary licensure and in processing required criminal background checks.

Education and Experience:

Master's degree in nursing with documentation of preparation in curriculum and teaching required.   Five years (8,320 hours) of experience as a registered nurse, three of which shall have been in a teaching or administrative position in a nursing education program required.  High fidelity simulation, and a broad clinical base including mental health preferred. 

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted:  accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
