Job Summary:

The Agriculture Instructor/Livestock Judging Coach is a full-time ten-month position on the Sheridan College campus of the Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD). The teaching duties for this position include developing and delivering college classes associated with livestock judging and agriculture classes dedicated to serving students from Big Horn High School, Sheridan County School District #1 (SCSD1), located in Big Horn, WY. Coaching responsibilities include recruiting and traveling with the judging team while representing NWCCD at regional and national livestock judging contests, encourage and utilize community partnerships and collaborations that support the program, participate in Agriculture department functions and activities that promote Sheridan College programs to prospective students, parents, and other interested parties, and maintain and pursue professional development opportunities that build on agriculture departmental strengths and contributes to NWCCD’s mission and goals. Additional responsibilities include supporting high school agriculture students outside the classroom which include FFA activities and participation in professional development activities to gain or maintain high school teaching certification.  This position will be responsible for managing a budget and supervising livestock judging team members.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience Required by the Position:

  • Knowledge of agriculture industry and current livestock judging trends.
  • Familiarity with experiential learning and learner-centered educational philosophies.
  • Knowledge of content to develop and deliver college and high school Agriculture courses to include: Introduction to Agriculture, Animal Science, Livestock Evaluation Courses.
  • Ability to teach introductory Ag courses as well as courses related to livestock judging. 
  • Ability to use a variety of teaching methods and materials that assist student learning.
  • Ability to work with a broad spectrum of student abilities.
  • Ability to support and expand community outreach and collaborations.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team with shared responsibilities and agreed upon objectives.
  • ​Teaching experience (preferred at community college or high school level).
  • Experience developing and managing a budget.
  • ​Experience with livestock judging (coaching experience preferred).
  • Experience working with industry, community groups, agriculture businesses, educational institutions, and/or governmental agencies.
  • Experience with FFA activities (advising experience preferred).
  • Master's degree or higher in an academic discipline focused toward animal science or related area and/or a Master’s degree with 18 graduate level credits in animal science. If in progress, must be completed within one year of employment.
  • PTSB certification attainment required within three years of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Acceptable driving record and able to pass a background check.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Extensive travel will be required which may include traveling in adverse weather conditions.
  • Many evenings and weekends will be required for livestock judging coach responsibilities.
  • Some work will be in an outdoor setting.
