The Office of Educational Technology at Georgia Gwinnett College is seeking a Network Administrator I. The Network Administrator I position will assist in the campus network, telephone system, network-related infrastructure such as DNS and DHCP, and other tasks as needed. The position will report to Director of Networking and Infrastructure within the Office of Educational Technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Works with the Network Administrators II & III, Team Leads, and Department Director to ensure Server security and connectivity
  • Reviews network operations daily, which includes maintaining uptime of switches and routers on campus along with the services support network function (DHCP, RADIUS, DNS, VPN, WiFi)
  • Reviews telephony operations daily, which includes maintaining uptime of primary phone server and call center server and any configuration changes required throughout the day
  • Maintains and monitor campus border firewall and makes any adjustments to support daily function
  • Deploys LAN, WAN and wireless network solutions for campus
  • Incorporates all new endpoint devices into the network
  • Updates and maintains current LAN, WAN, and wireless infrastructure
  • Maintains LAN, WAN, and wireless network solutions for campus ensuring interconnectivity
  • Consults with any contractors on campus to prevent loss of service due to accidental damage to campus fiber and copper
  • Manages SSL certificates for all enterprise servers
  • Completes technology tickets pertaining to network, telephony, and firewall function
  • Documents physical and logical network designs
  • Troubleshoots network issues, performs hardware replacement upgrades, and restoration
  • Diagnoses and resolves simple LAN and wireless network problems, referring more complex issues to next level support
  • Diagnoses and resolves issues with Voice over IP telecommunications. Maintains VOIP phones, servers and services
  • Provides weekend on-call service as either Primary or Secondary support in a scheduled team rotation
  • Responsible for being on-call or available 24 hour/7 days a week via campus provided phone
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years desktop support experience with IP address management
  • Demonstrated ability to set-up and configure network equipment and appliances
  • Experience with cable plant installation, repair, management, and termination
  • Proven problem-solving skills in a multiple-vendor environment
  • Familiarity with network protocols, including IP addressing and sub-netting
  • Familiarity with networking basic concepts
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Experience configuring Extreme routers and switches
  • Experience or working knowledge of DHCP, DNS, and other standard protocols
  • Experience or working knowledge of wireless solutions
  • Experience or working knowledge of Palo Alto and Cisco firewalls
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite, including Visio
  • Experience or working knowledge of monitoring network traffic and making appropriate recommendations
  • Familiarity with VOIP and call center services
