Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Preferred Qualifications Position Summary

Incumbent will work with the Feed and Environmental Water Laboratory (FEWL):

This position requires logging in the water, soil, feed and forage samples following project centered approved standard operating procedure with minimum supervision. It also requires accurate document keeping, entering analytical results in a correct manner, and generating analytical reports as instructed by the laboratory’s coordinator, supervisor, and quality assurance officer.

Involvement in laboratory work will also be needed, which includes routine work in performing technical and non-technical laboratory duties in the FEWL such as routine repetitive laboratory tasks, preparation of laboratory supplies and equipment for testing feed and water samples as directed by the laboratory supervisor and coordinator.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Knowledge of laboratory techniques and standard operating procedures.
Skills in general chemistry tasks (reagent preparation, standard preparation, instrument calibration, titration, dilution).
Skills to prepare specimens for analysis (drying, grinding, digestion, extraction, and distillation).
Skills in math (calculate calibration curves, dilution factors, moisture corrections, and quality control statistics).
Ability to use spread sheets and word processors.
Skills to operate, maintain, and general repair of various laboratory instruments.
Ability to work with other analysts.

Some lifting of approximately 40 lbs

Prepare routine chemical solutions required for chemical analyses of feed and water samples submitted by clients. Perform routine laboratory analyses of feed and water samples following the laboratory’s standard operating procedures
