About the College/Unit/DepartmentAugusta University (AU) and the University of Georgia (UGA) partnered to create a four-year medical campus in Athens to help alleviate a statewide shortage of physicians that threatens the health of Georgians. The AU/UGA Medical Partnership, which enrolled its first class of 40 students in 2010, combines the significant instructional and research resources of UGA, the state’s flagship land grant research university, with the expertise of AU-MCG, Georgia’s only public medical school.

Position SummaryThis AU/UGA Medical Partnership Office of Curriculum (CO) position provides support for Standardized Patient (SP) encounters within select Essentials of Clinical Medicine (ECM) components of the Phase I, II, and III curriculum. The successful candidate will be part of a team who coordinate the entire 4-year medical school curriculum at the AU/UGA Medical Partnership (MP). In this role, they will help coordinate student-SP encounters during first and second year (Phase I & II) Clinical Skills (CS), Simulation (SIM), and Ultrasound (US) coursework, as well as coordinating SP encounters during the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE), and other clinical educational activities, as required. Collectively, these curricular events are designed to equip students with the necessary clinical skills, knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors to perform successfully in the medical school curriculum. In addition to patient and event coordination, this person will be responsible for collecting and analyzing highly confidential data related to students’ evaluations, student grades, and faculty evaluations, maintaining strict confidentiality of such information. As a member of the CO, the successful candidate is expected to cultivate, develop, and manage relationships with students, faculty, and fellow staff members. Organizationally, this position reports to the Campus Director of Standardized Patients and is expected to interface primarily with students engaging in CS/SIM/US coursework as well as those undergoing assessment of student clinical competence (OSCE), and secondarily, interface with other CO team members and Campus Associate Dean for Curriculum.

Duties/Responsibilities Duties/ResponsibilitiesCoordinate standardized patient (SP) encounters during clinical skills sessions, OSCE testing, and any other events requiring SP’s (SIM and US).
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
oFirst point of contact for issues related to SPs and associated events. Support all needs of those events and Campus Director of Standardized Patients.
oAssist with developing and coordinating programming and services for SP encounters in the MP curriculum.
oManage changes in SP rostra and their placement in academic calendars, notifies faculty, students, and CO of any changes when required.
oCollaborate with the CS, SIM and US directors to regularly measure effectiveness of SP programs and services.
oCoordinate completion of SP/faculty student evaluations to include providing appropriate forms and instructions.
oConduct ongoing assessment of SP activities and on-campus SP practices and provides feedback to Campus Director of Standardized Patients as to the effectiveness of these events. Work closely with the Campus Director of Standardized Patients and other members of CO team to identify opportunities for improvements to ECM curriculum.
oMake recommendations to the Campus Director of Standardized Patients regarding monitoring alignment of departmental initiatives with the university and division strategic plan and annual goals.
oCoordinate and participate in weekly meetings with the CO and Campus Director of Standardized Patients to ensure deadlines are course goals are being met.
Support Campus Director of Standardized Patients by implementing SP program and all live encounters, assist in scheduling SPs, attend trainings, prepare preparation paperwork, set up and break down encounters, monitor during encounters or manage staff working as monitors during encounters, administer and maintain the B-Line recording system, and any day of troubleshooting and problem solving as needed.
