The Grant Support Services Specialist provides case management to the participants of the TechHire program. The position provides services and resources available at the College and in the community to support retention efforts and completion of educational training and certifications This is a temporary position. This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 consecutive months of continuous employment.

  • Coordinates case management activities and internships/on the job training
  • Evaluates participant needs including but not limited to food assistance, transportation, textbooks, childcare through intake processing
  • Ensures participants are linked to internal MDC services such as Single Stop and Learning Resources
  • Maintains electronic database to track student needs and progress in their selected program
  • Secures participants information and communicates with student on a regular basis
  • Assists students with defining and clarifying their educational goals and resolves issues related to academic difficulty and perceived barriers to education and employment
  • Contacts instructors to monitor student performance and follows up with students as needed to promote retention
  • Participates in various departmental, campus and college initiatives related to retention and student support services
  • Performs administrative tasks that aid the grant in providing supportive services to program participants
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in a related field and three (3) years of relevant work experience in advising students and industry experience in Business, Engineering, Information Technology or other related industry
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student retention strategies especially for non-traditional participants with barriers to education and employment
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to details
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility
  • Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to assess participant needs and take appropriate action
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Possess strong interactive and team building skills
  • Ability to travel to multiple Miami Dade College campuses to meet with participants
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations
