Associate Director, GUMC Stewardship - Office of Advancement
The Office of Advancement supports the mission of Georgetown University, its faculty, and students by developing relationships with key constituencies, connecting with alumni, and working with donors to help them know and understand opportunities for partnership with the university.

As a member of the Office of Advancement's Stewardship team, the Associate Director, Georgetown University Medical Center Stewardship works to build a culture of gratitude and ensures that donors are appreciated, informed, and engaged. This position is responsible for ensuring that donors are consistently acknowledged and recognized for significant gifts to Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). The Associate Director's work ultimately touches donors at every level. Thus, a strong sense of responsibility, integrity, thoroughness, attention to detail, and timeliness are critical to maintaining the University's relationship with its donors and their level of trust. The Associate Director will own the management and strategic implementation of the stewardship program for GUMC, including donor communications, acknowledgments, and donor recognition. The Associate Director manages and executes stewardship reporting to donors of endowed and select current-use funds within the Georgetown University Medical Center including: School of Medicine (with the exception of scholarships), Biomedical Graduate Research Organization, Nursing and Health Studies, and the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.

This position works with Medical Center colleagues and external constituents and is highly service-oriented. The Associate Director, GUMC Stewardship reports to the Director of Stewardship. The Associate Director works closely with (but not limited to): multiple stakeholders including development officers, Advancement marketing and communications team, Associate and Assistant Vice Presidents for Advancement, the CFO's Office, OA Gift Administration staff, financial administrators, academic departments, the Executive Vice President of the Medical Center, deans, researchers and hospital departments.

This position is responsible for the continued meaningful involvement of Georgetown's donors in the life of the Medical Center. It is only with a consistent level of high quality and thoughtful points of contact, engagement, and accurate correspondence that these donors will continue to look to Georgetown as a place to give expression to their own values and philanthropic agendas.
The Associate Director, GUMC Stewardship will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:

Stewardship of Endowed Funds and Significant Current Use Funds
  • Manages stewardship communications between the university and donors to GUMC including School of Medicine (with the exception of scholarships), Biomedical Graduate Research Organization, Nursing and Health Studies, the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and other funds as assigned.
  • Develops and manages the annual communications plan between the university and donors to funds as assigned.
  • Writes, edits, and produces annual impact-of-gift reports containing information about fund recipients and their work, and the financial status of funds.
  • Works closely with stewardship and campus colleagues to gather and integrate data, including information about funds, donors, and fund beneficiaries.
  • Manages existing fund records for the reporting portfolio, as appropriate, and ensures that the correct stewardship donors/contacts and fund recipients are linked and that information is kept accurate and current.
  • As needed, conducts research into donors' giving histories to uncover important gift and fund documentation.

Lead Donor Recognition Program
  • Develop consistent donor recognition for donors throughout the medical center campuses.
  • Lead the coordination and installation of all donor recognition and commemorative plaques and signage throughout the medical center, ensuring that donors are recognized accurately and appropriately for gifts warranting a naming within a facility.
  • Manages ongoing review and updating of donor recognition throughout the medical campus.
  • Communicates with donors regarding content of, installation, and whereabouts of naming opportunities.
  • Communicates with facilities colleagues and vendors regarding production and installation of donor recognition.

New Initiatives and Other Duties
  • Contribute to or manage other stewardship and donor communications initiatives on an as-needed basis.
  • Participate in building dedications, gift celebrations, fundraising, and other events as needed.
  • Serve on Office of Advancement and University committees, as necessary.

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • A minimum of 4-6 years of professional experience, preferably in a higher education or non-profit environment.
  • Must have superior organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to manage complex projects, and proven experience working independently.
  • Outstanding oral and written communications skills including writing, editing, and proofreading.
  • Diplomatic skills and customer relations skills are essential.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously, and consistently meet all deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively manage projects that are both data-driven and relationship-driven.
  • A strong desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of the Office of Advancement.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
  • Preferred experience:
    • Experience working with donors in a medical center setting.
    • Familiarity or experience with medical writing and terminology.
    • Familiarity with fundraising databases or the SalesForce platform.
    • Familiarity with hospital fundraising, medical research, or communications.
    • Knowledge of Georgetown University.
