Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit

UNCG Auditorium is a 1,642 seat proscenium style theatre that is used for musical productions, operas, symphonies, ensembles, University Concert and Lecture Series events, faculty and guest dance performances, and many other campus events. The Auditorium serves as a portal through which the Greensboro community experiences the UNCG campus, and enhances the campus experience for students, faculty, staff, patrons, and visitors alike.

Position Summary

The primary purpose of this position is the day to day operations of the UNCG Auditorium, including safety management, training and development of staff and student workers, coordination with performers and representatives regarding production details, scheduling and supervising all necessary production personnel, oversight of the building/physical plant, and Auditorium event scheduling and coordination

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing a similar facility, and 3+ years of experience in a supervisory role.

Supervision of all production personnel, including full-time and part-time employees, student workers, and contracted labor from the local IATSE union as needed. Ensure that all events are appropriately staffed with trained Auditorium personnel, including box office, ushers, stagehands, etc.

Oversight and management of building physical plant including safety inspections, maintenance, and management of other issue to ensure safe and comfortable conditions for all employees, patrons, and users of the Auditorium. This includes recommendations and planning for upgrades and repairs to systems and equipment, as well as collaboration with other units on campus to coordinate services (e.g. cleaning of soft goods, etc)

Essential Tasks

This includes, but is not limited to, conducting fire safety inspections, performing or coordination for routine building maintenance, coordination of maintenance and repairs with contracted workmen and trades people, making recommendations for changes, improvements or additions to current procedures, and other physical plant duties which may arise.Insure safe working conditions and practices for all users.

Coordinate with and provide guidance to administrative offices, academic units, student organizations, community groups, and other Auditorium users/clients to ensure successful event productions.

Essential Tasks

Work closely with performers to coordinate the following: staging requirements, schedules, backline equipment, rental equipment, IATSE state crew, and any additional production services that may be needed. Coordinate and conduct pre and post production meetings as needed.

Complete the event recap report with details of the event that can be discussed at a post event production meeting or placed in the event file for future reference.

Management of Auditorium budget in coordination with Assistant Dean for Budget and Operations, including forecasting of Auditorium budget needs to cover student and part time staffing, supplies, and services, and ensuring appropriate stewardship of Auditorium funds.

Track budget during the fiscal year for deviations from budget and to track adjustments that needs to be made for the next budget cycle. Work with the Technical Director on recommendations for new equipment and supply purchases.
