JOSEPH WHARTON, FOUNDER
In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.
Wharton’s pioneering vision was to produce graduates who would become ‘pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life.’ The Wharton School maintains a long tradition of educating visionary business leaders in academia, business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.

Are you the kind of person who enjoys solving complex problems? Are you interested in finance as well as software engineering? Do you enjoy crafting code that is both innovative and maintainable? Can you design a functional and attractive user interface? The successful candidate will work with the Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) Advanced Initiatives team to design and develop new products and features for the WRDS platform. Another area of focus will be the automation and increased efficiency of the business aspects of WRDS. The person must also be able to help plan and manage the implementation multiple projects and provide training and sales presentations. Ability to operate independently or with a team, a thorough understanding of database design, and self-motivation are all highly valued.

BA/BS in Computer Science or another closely related discipline with 3 – 5 years experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Our development stack and technologies include: Python, Django, RESTful APIs, PostgreSQL, git, Linux, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SAS, and Salesforce; you should be proficient in some, and eager to learn the others. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Background in finance, big data, and statistics a big plus. Desired skills include: Bootstrap 4, HighCharts, and web visualization libraries; MS SQL Server; working with very large databases and research methods.
