POSITION:        ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR - INTERNAL OPERATIONS                                      

LOCATION:       ATHLETICS

New Jersey City University, a NCAA Division III member of the NJAC & ECAC Conference, is accepting applications for the position of Associate Athletic Director (AD) for Internal Operations. Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics, this position is responsible for executive leadership and management of internal units; Facilities and Operations, Business Office, Compliance, Sports Medicine and Performance, and the Equipment Office. Primary duties include, but are not limited to; implementation of short-and long-term financial planning, fiscal management and budget oversight of internal units and sport programs, management of department policy, procedures, compliance and risk, coordination of internal communication with Athletics and University departments, implementation of Athletics onboarding, recruitment and retention program and serving as primary liaison to University Human Resource. Encouraging academic and athletic excellence and adherence to all rules and regulations set forth by New Jersey City University, the NCAA and the New Jersey Athletic Conference is required. Commitment to fostering and investing in the growth of the holistic experience of the NJCU student-athlete will be paramount in this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership and managerial support in all aspects of internal operations specific to Budget Office, Compliance & Risk Management, Human Resource, Sports Medicine and Performance, Equipment Office, and Facilities and Operations. Develops and maintains a five-year operating budget plan. Develops and maintains a five-year capital plan. Develops, prepares and refines monthly, quarterly and yearly financial reports for the AVP/senior staff, head coaches and University budget office of current fiscal year financial position and projected current fiscal year finishing position. Monitor coaches’ activities relative to rules compliance; interact with departmental staff members and coaches to ensure compliance with NCAA rules and regulations; serve as a liaison between coaches and the NCAA Legislative Services, NCAA and NJAC Eligibility Center, Admissions Office, and Registrar’s Office; Responsible for creating and implementing department-wide policies and procedures impacting staff, faculty, and students. Serve as the Title IX contact for the Athletics department, monitoring gender equity, both operationally and financially, and advising the administrative team regarding deficiencies and remedies. Develop and monitor, in conjunction with Facilities Department, a facility maintenance plan for all aspects of fitness and athletic facilities. Leads execution of the operational plan for NJCU Department of Athletics Internal Operations. Accountable for the successful achievement of goals and objectives of direct functional area(s). Manages individual(s) and is responsible for hiring, setting performance standards, coaching and evaluating staff, and defining objectives that need to be achieved. Work closely with University Human Resource, Procurement and other campus departments as assigned. Develop an annual statistical reports in all areas assigned. Responsible to know current NCAA, Conference, and University rules, regulations, and deadlines governing Athletic sports. Adhere to NCAA, conference, departmental, and university policies, procedures, and expectations. Establish and maintain a culture of excellence personally and within your respective unit(s). Implement an annual evaluation and assessment of all staff and assigned coaches. Attend annual professional development workshops, seminars and/or conferences to enhance overall professional skills.

REQUIREMENTS: An earned Master’s degree in business, accounting of finance required  

EXPERIENCE: Eight to ten years of experience in financial management/forecasting, facility management and budget oversight. Strong organizational and managerial skills and experience with multiple units. Ability to work in a fast paced environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to demonstrate flexibility and work with various campus and community programs/partners. Experience in the field of athletics and ideally athletic academic success. Flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends. Possess excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrates ability and willingness to work as a team member and to work independently. Problem-solver with the initiative and follow-through skills; tact, diplomacy, and judgement in dealing with students, parents, faculty, and administrators. Detail oriented and demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED: Five or more years of experience working in intercollegiate athletics. Experience as a unit director with budget oversight knowledge/experience. Demonstrated knowledge of developmental academic advising methodologies. Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of a diverse student population.
