Through our seven colleges, we deliver exceptional learning opportunities and educational services for diverse student populations in Chicago. We enhance knowledge, understanding, skills, collaboration, community service and life-long learning by providing a broad range of quality, affordable courses, programs, and services to prepare students for success in a technologically advanced and increasingly interdependent global society. Our Vision is to transform the City Colleges of Chicago into a world-class institution. We do that by ensuring student success. It is the centerpiece of our Reinvention effort. What we mean by student success is making sure our students are prepared to move into higher education and that they have the skills for jobs in the 21st Century. We believe there is no other institution better positioned to become an economic engine for the City of Chicago.
We have a proud history of providing life-changing opportunities and education to residents of Chicago’s most underserved communities. However, far too many students are not meeting their goals today. And that’s why we’ve launched this ambitious plan to reinvent the City Colleges.
Our work and our vision will not be complete until we make sure every one of our students leaves with the tools they need to achieve their goals. Success is going to look different for each student. In the end, we envision an institution which will do four things very well:
- Increase the number of students earning college credentials of economic value
- Increase the rate of transfer to Bachelor’s degree programs following CCC graduation
- Drastically improve outcomes for students needing remediation
- Increase number and share of ABE/GED/ESL students who advance to and succeed in college-level courses
Accomplishing these goals will benefit not only our students, but also our faculty and staff, four-year colleges, Chicago area employers, the Chicago Public Schools and communities...and help transform us into a world-class institution.
