ASSOCIATE DEAN OF CAREER PROGRAMS

WILBUR WRIGHT COLLEGE

 

Wilbur Wright College, one of the City Colleges of Chicago, seeks an Associate Dean of Career Programs to provide academic leadership, development, and management oversight of academic and instructional programs designed to prepare students for transfer and career opportunities. The College provides students with a diverse blend of Associate Degree and certificate programs in career areas to include: Gerontology, Paralegal, Occupational Therapy, Graphic Design, and Manufacturing.

 

The Associate Dean of Career Programs works in tandem with the Dean of Instruction and faculty to strategically plan for the effective management, conduct, and evaluation of general education and career programs and initiatives in order to achieve optimal learning outcomes and ensure student success. This position also works collaboratively with other Associate Deans across departments in providing leadership, vision, and strategic direction for all credit and non-credit programs at the college.

 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Provides leadership and coordination in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of credit and certificate programs and services in alignment with current and emerging industry needs.

Works collaboratively with faculty and industry partners on curriculum development and the implementation of courses and programs, with a focus on teaching excellence, student learning and success, assessment of outcomes, and the continuous improvement of programs.

Provides effective channels of communication between college and district level administrators and faculty to ensure integrity of educational programs, enhancement of current and changing program offerings, and introduction of new technologies within the department.

Cultivates productive partnerships with industry and business partners and maintains day-to-day relationships, working collaboratively to assess the relevancy of coursework, identify emerging skills and hiring trends, and procure new internship and externship opportunities.

Administers and manages apprenticeships and internships for careers programs, and provides administrative support to practicum programming and capstone courses required for the completion of various programs.

Identifies and recommends staffing needs to the Dean. Interviews and recommends the selection of discipline specific part-time faculty and participates on committees for the selection and hiring of full-time faculty.

Evaluates full-time and part-time faculty to ensure continuity of quality classroom instruction for both the credit and certificate programs within guidelines set by Board and/or union collective bargaining agreements.

Pursues and follows through with issues of concern and assists in resolving problems, including but not limited to, student or faculty complaints, and follows appropriate procedures for their resolution.

Responsible for employee supervision and accountability for both direct and indirect reports. Promotes and facilitates professional development and application of new learner-centered teaching strategies.

Works closely with Department Chairpersons to maintain academic and logistical operations including course scheduling, faculty assignment, and ordering of textbooks.

Collaborates with college administrators and the Business Office in the development, monitoring, and management of budgets and the allocation of resources.

Ensures compliance with accreditation standards. Participates in ICCB mandated program reviews, HLC institutional accreditation activities, and accreditation processes for individual CTE programs.

Provides leadership in identifying outside funding opportunities and writes proposals to seek grants and external funding for specific projects and program initiatives in collaboration with the District Office.

Works with the Office of Research in planning for the collection and assessment of data to evaluate departmental programs and courses, create improvement plans, and recommend new curricular offerings.

Represents the college to community organizations and agencies and participates on district-wide committees.



Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an academic discipline or field associated with the career program offerings.
  • Five years of work experience as a college administrator, program chair, faculty member, or related program management experience.

    Demonstrated excellent supervisory, administrative, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.

    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of planning, program development, evaluation, and budgeting, preferably in a community college setting.

    Experience working in a unionized, higher education setting preferred.

    Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

  

Chicago residency is required for all full-time employees within six (6) months of hire.
