Description:

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is seeking applicants for a faculty director for the Center for Public Affairs in Sacramento, California. The director will be responsible for teaching a combination of public administration and/or public policy courses and directing study away internship opportunities for undergraduate students in the Sacramento area within government and non-profit agencies. The director will also be responsible for directing a Master’s program in Public Administration (MPA).

Candidates should possess an earned Ph.D. in Political Science or Government or Public Administration, and maintain a strong commitment to Christian higher education. The appointment could begin as soon as June 1, 2019, although a later start date may be negotiated with the dean.

Responsibilities:

• Promote the mission and purpose of the Sacramento-based Center for Public Affairs among campus faculty, administrators, students, and external partners;
• In conjunction with university officials, expand the network of partners, donors, and alumni in order to augment the influence of the Center on campus and around the state;
• Coordinate internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students and direct the corresponding internship courses;
• Serve as program director for the online and hybrid cohorts of the MPA program;
• Teach 9 units of public administration and/or public policy courses in the Fall and Spring semesters;
• Identify adjunct instructors to assist with undergraduate and graduate-level coursework;
• Develop, plan, and coordinate outreach events for Center activities, such as a speaker series, donor visits, and interactions with public officials;
• Assist with the development of a communication publication that highlights Center activities and influence;
• Manage the program budget and coordinate fundraising efforts, including grant solicitations and other funding proposals
• Advise and mentor students;
• Integrate Christian faith in all aspects of instruction and service;
• Maintain an active scholarly research agenda.
• May be needed to work at alternative Regional Campuses or Sites.

Level: Assistant or Associate Professor; Full Professor may be considered

Qualifications:  

• Master’s degree in Political Science or Government or Public Administration, Ph.D. preferred.
• A commitment to teaching excellence and a scholarly research agenda.
• A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University.

Experience:  

Teaching and publication record commensurate with rank. Prior program administration experience preferred.

Workload:  

Responsible for teaching 18 units per year. Administrative responsibilities, which include supervising internships, directing a graduate MPA program, and directing Center activities are expected throughout the academic year. Administrative work over the summer months may be negotiated and compensated with additional salary.
