Requirements

The Office of Advancement supports the mission of Georgetown University, its faculty, and students by developing relationships with key constituencies, connecting with alumni, and working with donors to help them know and understand opportunities for partnership with the university.
The Director, Georgetown University Medical Center Engagement & Annual Giving is responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive fundraising and outreach program for Georgetown University's Medical Center (GUMC). S/he is responsible for raising annual funds for the School of Medicine, Lombardi Cancer Center, the Biomedical Graduate Research Organization, and the School of Nursing and Health Studies. Presently, these programs account for approximately $5 million in annual revenue. Additionally, the Director will manage engagement events and communications for select GUMC donors and School of Medicine alumni, including the annual School of Medicine Reunion. The Director will report to the Assistant Vice President, Annual Giving, and serve as part of the Annual Giving leadership team. The Director will manage a staff of three and an operating budget totaling approximately $250,000, working closely with other Annual Giving directors to develop cross-program strategies and learn from one another. The Director, GUMC Engagement & Annual Giving will have duties that include, but are not limited to the following:

Business Planning, Execution, and Reporting
  • Develop comprehensive annual giving program for all medical center-affiliated annual fund programs with a particular focus on dollars raised, gift club membership, major gift identification, and alumni participation.
  • Develop an annual business plan by July 31 of each fiscal year.; use this plan as a guide throughout the year. This plan should have a key strategic emphasis on presently underdeveloped annual fund programs for Lombardi Cancer Center, the Biomedical Graduate Research Organization, and the School of Nursing and Health Studies. Must also incrementally improve well-established School of Medicine Annual Fund program.
  • Oversight for all communications and priority messaging for GUMC constituencies for both annual giving and alumni engagement activities.
  • Monitors the progress of the annual fund dollars on a consistent basis, keeping key staff informed of progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Monthly, quarterly, and on an as-needed basis, report to internal partners and leaders on year to date progress and deliver public presentations, as necessary.

GUMC Leadership Giving Strategy and Donor Societies
  • In partnership with the annual giving team, develop a data-driven leadership giving strategy to increase $1K + donors to GUMC segments
  • Partner with GUMC Development colleagues to leverage data and create pipeline of prospect visits and outreach for each unit within GUMC.
  • Create and execute tailored strategies to generate leadership annual gifts or move to major gift donors
  • Design and execute special fundraising initiatives to drive participation and dollars (i.e. fundraising for the Legends awardee and others).

Signature Events Strategy and Execution
  • Strategize and oversight for key alumni and constituent engagement events to drive participation and a prospect pipeline.
  • Oversight for GUMC Reunion annual strategy and planning, leadership for GUMC presence at signature events such as June Reunion, John Carroll Weekend, and Alumni Career Services events.

Volunteer Management
  • Collaborate with volunteers on the activities and goals of their board, specifically with those who will assist in prospect identification, cultivation, and solicitation.
  • Staff the School of Medicine Alumni Board, the Dental Alumni Board, and new, emerging Alumni-based boards, as necessary.
  • Provide meeting guidance and preparation, governance support, and direction for volunteers.

Staff Management
  • Adhere to overall goals and budget guidelines.
  • Recommend program goals and measures of accountability for all medical center annual fund programs.
  • Recruit, manage and train staff, analyze program, and make recommendations for program refinement.

Additional Key Assignments
  • Assist other departmental areas as needed.
  • Attend Office of Advancement, Medical Center Development, Annual Fund, and other Georgetown meetings.
  • Participate as a volunteer in Office of Advancement and Medical Center Development Office sponsored events.
  • Attend professional development functions as appropriate.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of professional experience in fundraising, direct marketing, communications, and/or volunteer management; or commensurate skills and experience
  • Desire to contribute to and participate in the mission of Georgetown University and its Medical Center
  • First-hand experience engaging constituents through strategic marketing and communications
  • A proven ability to think strategically and develop strategic plans
  • Professional and collegial demeanor and ability to exercise diplomacy
  • Ability to lead by example and through instruction with experience working with donors and/or volunteers leaders
  • A track record of high achievement and meeting or exceeding goals with the ability to think creatively and innovatively
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Experience and comfort working with complex metrics and analysis
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft applications (particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Access)
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
