Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualificaitons.

Preferred Qualifications

MS-Food Science/Chemistry/Biochemistry or related applied sciences with 1 year of experience working in an analytical laboratory. Basic statistical analysis skills are desirable.

Position Summary

The position supports the Food Science & Technology faculty and their graduate students in Griffin for their analytical instrumentation and protocols. Some specific examples of instrumentation that this position will handle are: the running and maintaining specialized lab instruments such as gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer, liquid chromatographs, particle size analyzer, texture analyzers, PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) equipment, general chemical and/or microbiological testing, etc.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

1.Should be knowledgeable about running and maintaining equipment in analytical labs.
2.Should be able to learn and understand the operation and maintenance of new equipment that will be installed or is new for the hired individual.
3.Should be able to handle equipment safety, repair of instruments.
4.Should be able to train graduate students and visiting scientists on instruments and lab equipment.
5.Should have good communication skills.
