Deane School of Law at Hofstra University seeks applications for the position of full- time Reference and Scholarly Services Librarian. Reporting to the Assistant Director for Reference and Instructional Services, the Reference and Scholarly Services Librarian is responsible for planning and managing various initiatives related to faculty scholarship. The Reference and Scholarly Services librarian is a member of the Reference team which collaborates closely to provide reference services to all Law Library users as well as legal research instruction. Some evening or weekend hours are a part of this position.

Responsibilities:
•Provide extensive reference and research services to law faculty and students, including participation in the faculty liaison program and reference desk rotation.

•Work collaboratively with another member of the reference team to train and supervise the Library’s student research assistants.

•Serve as liaison to at least one of the student-edited law journals.

•Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Reference and Instructional Services, develop services and documentation for scholarly initiatives, including scholarly impact efforts and guidance with copyright issues in scholarly publishing.

•Work collaboratively with the Law School’s Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development and Library Senior Support Specialist to provide support for faculty SSRN submissions and curation of the faculty SSRN Research Paper Series.

•Act as Perma.cc registrar and coordinator for Law School accounts.

•Create and provide instructional programs for students and faculty collaboratively with other members of the Reference team.

•Investigate and implement, as appropriate, new technologies and systems relevant to research services and help develop programs to train faculty, staff, and students in the use of these technologies and systems.

•Identify, evaluate, and recommend the purchase of new print and digital resources.

•Work with vendors and other relevant parties to resolve access and other issues with the Library’s online legal research products.

•Coordinate Library’s social media presence.

•Foster strong working relationships with colleagues both at Hofstra and in other academic law libraries.

•Work collaboratively with all Library team members in carrying out the long and short-term objectives and goals of the Library and the Law School.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
•J.D. from ABA approved law school; M.L.S. from ALA accredited library school.
•Knowledge of legal materials and current research methods, along with strong legal analytical skills.
•Ability to complete self-directed projects under deadlines with little or no supervision.
•Ability to master new or redesigned digital resources.
•Adept in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite and other standard business and academic applications.
•Demonstrated exceptional written and oral communication skills.
•A strong work ethic and commitment to excellent service.
•Demonstrated ability to work effectively, both independently and collaboratively, within a collegial environment.
•Commitment to engage in professional development activities and opportunities.
•Ability to combine the pursuit of excellence with a spirit of kindness and collaboration.


Preferred Qualifications:
•Two or more years of experience in a law library reference department with demonstrated legal research and reference expertise.
•Experience coordinating and managing faculty requests.
•Experience working with new and emerging technologies or a strong interest in integrating appropriate technology into instruction.
•Proficiency with Lexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, other electronic research resources, and print legal materials.
•Experience with online faculty author profiles, Perma.cc, and institutional repositories.
•Teaching experience.
