The Director of Community Standards and Student Advocacy provides leadership and management for institutional efforts to support and promote a campus climate of civility, integrity, responsibility, and social justice by administering the Student Code of Conduct. The incumbent will report to the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and will serve as primary hearing officer by adjudicating academic and non-academic misconduct incidents. The Director selects, trains and evaluates a team of administrative hearing officers; convenes Student Conduct Committee, chairs Campus Threat Assessment Team, and co-chairs the Student Concerns Committee (GSU CARE Team); serves as case manager for students in distress; and develops and implements campus programs promoting outreach and education focused on civility, respect and integrity. The Director of Community Standards and Student Advocacy leads GSU4U efforts to address food and housing insecurities by establishing relationships with community based social service agencies and creating a network of care for students. In addition, the Director also recruits and trains supports and advocates for students who are navigating the community standards process and campus wide grievances and appeals. The Director of Community Standards and Student Advocacy annually updates the student handbook and relevant policies and protocols; and assists with assessment efforts in the Office of the Dean of Students and the Division of Student Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in areas of Counseling, Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, Conflict Resolution, Student Development, College Student Personnel, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of work experience in higher education or comparable to that performed as a Student Conduct Advisor or in other positions of comparable responsibility involving experience working with residential life, student conduct, working with a student disciplinary system, or a related field.

• Knowledge of student conduct database administration, i.e. Maxient
• Ability to solve problem and work effectively in a fast paced environment
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to generate and manage work groups and projects
• Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines to deal with competing demands.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills for internal and external interactions.
• Understanding of student conduct processes and procedures, current student conduct issues and trends, Title IX requirements, higher education law, and student development theory required.
• Experience working with behavioral intervention or threat assessment teams and supporting/responding to students in distress or crisis.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from underrepresented and under-served populations.
• Experience working with faculty and staff in their roles as hearing officers.
• Commitment to fostering student learning, social justice, restorative justice, and community values.
• Independent judgment, critical management, and time management skills.
