Senior Fellow, Georgetown Climate Center (Part Time) - Georgetown University Law Center

Requirements

The nonpartisan Georgetown Climate Center (GCC) seeks to advance effective climate and energy policies in the United States and serves as a resource to state and local communities that are working to cut carbon pollution and prepare for climate change.The Senior Fellow works for the Georgetown Climate Center as apart of the Georgetown University Law Center, managing and contributing to projects related to financial aspects of climate adaptation and mitigation policy. S/he represents the GCC at conferences and events, and will interact with external partners and stakeholders, such as with state, local and federal officials, members of the financial and corporate sectors, other academics, the media, and students. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Fellow has duties that include but are not limited to:
  • Develop and implement a research work plan in consultation with the Executive and Directors that provides opportunities for GCC to serve as a high-value resource to local, state, and federal policymakers on the use of financial principles in mitigation and adaptation climate policy.
  • Conduct outreach, engagement, and facilitation with local, state, and federal leaders and staff, NGOs, companies, experts, other stakeholders, and the press.
  • Organize and lead meetings and events with senior government leaders, engage with the press, and conduct public speaking when necessary.
  • Supervise research assistants and student research projects related to Climate Center research, including overseeing work on climate finance topics.
  • Work with external stakeholders that help scope, provide input, review student work, and teach opportunities in support of climate change and energy curriculum when needed.
  • Work closely with the Executive and other Directors to secure funding for the Center's research and policy agenda including interacting with funders and identifying new opportunities for research and policy grants.
  • Develop funding proposals that capture strategic opportunities to further GCC's research priorities, reporting on current grants.

Qualifications
  • Advanced degree; JD preferred
  • Minimum of eight years of experience in climate change or environmental law and policy, with a focus on the application of financial principals to climate or environmental problems
  • Demonstrated strength in research, writing, editing, analytics, and public speaking skills
  • Experience using office software products as well as developing presentations and spreadsheets
  • Strong interpersonal skills, professionalism and sound judgment
  • Experience with analyzing the environmental and social impacts of financial institutions on local communities preferred
