Located in the Washington D.C. Metropolitan area between the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay, the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) serves a culturally and geographically diverse region. College of Southern Maryland invites applications to fill a 10-month, Botany and General Science faculty position. This position is based at the La Plata campus.
The faculty member is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning. The faculty member is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on the La Plata campus. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. A faculty member performs all other duties as directed by the Division Chair, Vice President of Academic Affairs, or the President or designee. In addition to the above responsibilities, this faculty member coordinates various aspects of the College of Southern Maryland General Science course (SCE 1010) at all campuses, including such activities as scheduling of courses, hiring of adjunct faculty, observing adjunct faculty, and fielding student feedback with regard to division course and program questions and concerns. Primary areas of teaching responsibility will be Botany and General Science.
The faculty member will teach 15 credits per semester; 30 credits per 10 month contract period. The faculty member will schedule, publish, and hold 5 office hours per week during the academic year, including fall and spring semesters. The faculty member will participate in professional development opportunities and perform professional service hours based on faculty placement in rank, as set forth in the Faculty Handbook.

- Master's degree in Biology or related life sciences degree required.
- Doctoral degree in Biology or related life sciences degree preferred.
- Two years college level full-time teaching experience or four years teaching as an adjunct faculty member in botany preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Mastery of appropriate computer skills.
